Grew up using Ambassadeur C3 baitcasters. What should I get now?

I don't think they had quite the technology in reels when I was fishing a lot, 25 years ago, so I'm a little overwhelmed trying to buy a new reel. I would be fine getting a used old C3 but am not sure if there is something "I can't live without" about the new reels. Is there something amazing about the new ones or should I just go with what I know?

My bro has a Shimano Scorpion DC, which he bought from Japan. I decided to get the US-equivalent which is the Curado DC. This was done comparing against the Shimano SLX DC. I paid the extra money for the Curado DC because its bearings are made for saltwater. It's a beauty and the DC tech is fantastic! Zzzzzzzzz is the sound with every cast but really, not having to worry about nesting too often is a plus.

Get a DC reel, shimano has em as the SLX DC, curado DC, and the scorpion DC, DC means it has a digital chip that will help regulate line control for more consistent casts, and they have a VERY satisfying whine to em, look up a few videos, the SLX DC is the cheapest at $200 US, but still very good, I’m going to get one this weekend

I own and use a number of Ambassadeurs, still my favorite reels even though I own the latest and greatest from Daiwa and Abu Garcia. The Ambassadeur is heavy, but it's easy to cast in spite of its antiquated technology. I can do anything with an Ambassadeur I can with a low profile short of dock skipping. They're also supremely durable and will last decades. Some of those I use are older than myself (40) and they keep on going. My 4000 size reels will cast comfortably down to 3/16 oz.
If you want to get into a good low profile for not a lot of money, have a look at the Daiwa Fuego CT. You get a lot of reel for the money. There is nothing wrong with going with what you know. I service reels for guys that bought theirs long ago but never felt the need to move on to anything else.

I own one baitcaster and it's a 4601c. Wife got it for me this past Christmas. I used spinning gear my entire life, so I'm not familiar with the baitcasters. I thought I was gonna have a problem with back lashes and learning to use it. Not so. It's a joy. For the price, I don't know how you beat one of those.

Spirits right,any of those reels in the 4000 group will serve you well. The 4600 class are comfortable and you don’t have a backlash problem. If you go that route,make sure it’s Swedish made. Their available in the 125.00 range.

Shimano is way out front with their DC reels I just cashed in some points on my Cabelas credit card and got the Metanium. It had great reviews and they were right. I love this reel.

Remember I said for the price. The metanium is right around $500. You better love it for that price.
