I do not think that the extra weight of having two batteries will be a problem, or will it slow down the boat. I had the exact same Nitro Bass boat, and it came and e with a 70 lb trust MinnKota and 70 LB trust was not enough. I upgraded to a 108 LB trust Minnakota, and it had no problems in the heavy current of the Columbia River. You need to remember that if you upgrade past your 70 LB trust motor to a higher trust motor like mine if you just set the speed to one on the foot pedal ad least be getting 60 lb of thrust and at the setting of two your boat be getting somewhere in the 90lb trust area and just the 90 lb trust will be all that you need, and the other speeds will almost be useless put still ready is needed even if you had three batteries in your boat. I had a two battery setup on my 108 trust motor, and it pulled my 14-foot Nitro just fine, and it was only set to speed two. Even my old 70 LB Minnkota would pull my two battery setup without a struggle.

Glenn if you're strictly talking about the trolling motor you'll never go airborne like that.

I have a 70 lb on my 1754 tracker n if I get heavy current it's not enough to keep me from going with the flow.

I do have a bow mount
I have a 17ft Nitro, and it came with a 70lb Minna Kota and I had the same problem
in heavy tide and current. I had no control at times and lots of no go at time even at full speed, and so I upgraded to a 108 LB Minne kota open bow mounted Minn Kota and problem solved, and so I feel your pain?

Will a high-thrust transom motor jack knife a 14-foot aluminum boat even if set to the slowest speed, I need the higher trust for my river fishing, but I also need a slow speed for casting and trolling in lakes I just don't want to go airborne. I will mostly be using it for bass fishing in the Columbia in Oregon with heavy current, but I do not need a trolling motor that goes faster than I need it to when set to a low setting. But once again, I need a motor that has at least 70 LB thrust for the heavy current and running tide at times without the airtime.

I am looking to get a new electric trolling motor for a fourteen-foot aluminum boat with a casting deck on it and it also will have the weight of a 5hp kicker motor, what would be a good size electric trolling motor thrust to get for it?

I second Leo on the stop water with the bad and not so easy thing about top water fishing is that you almost need a boat and trolling motor as you have to find the fish feeding on bait to fish for them. Once you find the strippers on top chasing the shad or bait just simply cast up to them. A good indication of feeding strippers is if you spot a bunch of birds circling the water as diving on the water to feed and once you find that you are set to fish.

Thank you, for the advice thats good info we will give it a shot we do a fair amount of trolling..

Since you are in NC I would bet that you have already heard of fishing for striper with 8/0 and bigger hooks as one on the biggest striper ever cought was out of NC on a 9/0 hook I think it was. I find that the striper fisherman back in the southern states are more used to fishing the bigger hooks for for stripers. I grew up on the Calif Delta fishing for stripers and just about all the fisher are rather using a two hook leader which is about her no no with hook that are just way to small. Make up a one and 1/2 to a 2 foot leader with a swivel on on end of the mono leader and tie the hook to the mono tag end as a permenate leader setup. Second take a slip on sliding sinker and run it up the line that is leading up to the line guides. After casting the setup into the water don’t just set the hook on a small lite bite. Once you get the bite wait until you feel the hook in the fishes mouth it might take a little learning but with the bigger hooks you will start to feel when the hook is in the mouth unlike a two hook leader with small hooks type of setup.

The best tip that I ever got from a striper guide for fishing dead bait was to use the bigger hook sizes. I know that this might sound a bit off when it comes to hook size but I use a anything from a 7/0 hook to 8/0 hook with the 8/0 being the best of the two. The thing about using a larger 8/0 hook is that even a 4 LB striper can take it in but he cannot spit it out and the hook will get lodged in the side of the fishes mouth. So give it a try and don’t defeat yourself and tell yourself that any hook that big is to big because that’s what I did at first. Don’t get caught up in only using a smaller 4/0 hook like most bait fishermen do. Do a YouTube search for how a fish steals a fisherman’s bait off his hook or try to find a video of a fish taking in the bait and spitting it out and you will see just how fast the fist can spit out a 4/0 small hook.

I took Zebco and Quantum reels off my buy list along time ago along with Shakespeare and Pflueger, because Plueger is just a higher class Shakspeare band and there service is terrible.

I have both and the only real difference is the diawa Fuego CT only has 5BB's and no T-Wing System level wind on it but the Tatula does, and it has 7 BB's which is no big deal because both work great. When it comes down to the T-wing system and getting more casting distance, I have never Sean it, and that goes for pitching and flipping.

That is the magnetic cast control setting it is not useful at all for me, but most guys like it, I find that the Mechanical
works much better, for me.

A spinning rod will work just as well as any bait casting rig, just as long as the rod has a Heavy action so can get a good fast hook set. Good control is key when fog fishing because you want your frog to move from side to side like a live frog. If your rod is too light, you will miss a lot of fish do to your rod not having the power to set the hook and a light action tip will not give your frog the correct action on the water, but with the correct spinning rod setup you should be just fine.

I have the same reel and it also had a small grinding sound to the gears or so I thought it was the gears and so I opened up the side cover and I found one tension spring had come loose. All I had to do was put the tension spring back in its correct place and a bit of grease on the gears and it was as smooth as a snake and as quiet as a mouse.
