Will a high-thrust transom motor jack knife a 14-foot aluminum boat even if set to the slowest speed, I need the higher trust for my river fishing, but I also need a slow speed for casting and trolling in lakes I just don't want to go airborne. I will mostly be using it for bass fishing in the Columbia in Oregon with heavy current, but I do not need a trolling motor that goes faster than I need it to when set to a low setting. But once again, I need a motor that has at least 70 LB thrust for the heavy current and running tide at times without the airtime.

Glenn if you're strictly talking about the trolling motor you'll never go airborne like that.

I have a 70 lb on my 1754 tracker n if I get heavy current it's not enough to keep me from going with the flow.

I do have a bow mount

For me I like my Minn Kota Terrova, with 80# trust, 24-volt, 60” shaft, attached to the bow of my 16’6” Deep V Tracker boat that weighs around 2000#s including my body weight. With the motor on full trust, it will go 3MPH+. But I have only lake fished with my boat, not on a river.

So, with water current, and your adjustable speed at low, you could be going with the current down river. From what I am hearing from other people that have used/use an electric motor on the river your choice of 70# trust may not be enough HP to keep up with the current.

You always go with the flow anyways.

I have a 17ft Nitro, and it came with a 70lb Minna Kota and I had the same problem
in heavy tide and current. I had no control at times and lots of no go at time even at full speed, and so I upgraded to a 108 LB Minne kota open bow mounted Minn Kota and problem solved, and so I feel your pain?

I'd like to upgrade to n 80.
Don't want the 36v setup.
Alot of extra weigh.

I try to Jeremy.
Sometimes I'd like to slow down enough to make a few decent cast brother 👍🤣

It's a pain Glen when you can't make a decent cast.

The Susquehanna River is swift in many places.
Some you can't access till water is up.
Then you better find some good Eddie's.

The smallies there like to hug shore line rocks. I was there one day. Current strong.
I had the 70 on high n I was heading down river .
Even tossed a 10lb mushroom anchor to no avail.

The guy I mentioned with the 101 got between two islands.
On high he could slow it down a bit.
Kill the OB n you wasn't going any further up river..

Tracker had a habit of putting 45's on everything 👍

Tracker still pretty much puts the same size trolling motor on its boats. Below is what comes with the boat standard on a Deep V in 2023. I upgraded my motor when I ordered the boat.

• Minn Kota® PowerDrive™ 12V, 42-lb. (19.05 kg) thrust, 54" (1.37 m) shaft, foot-control trolling motor

42 on a bigger boat is useless in current n wind.

When I bought my glastron it had a 50 on it.

Deep Creek lake. It's doing OK till the wind kicked up.
Came out of a cove into main lake n the fight was on.

After putting a 71 on it I still had trouble with wind

Finally took windshield off n that help a good bit

Hi, friend
I dont know if you want to remain stationary Have you ever thought about the Micro Anchor . I chose to use one over a trollingmotor to keep me in fast running river water I fish N .
Used they can go for under $500
Good luck.
Enjoyed the pic.

I chose to use a micro anchor in this case .
I have an electric motor on the rear of my kayak also .
To stay stationary in fast moving swallow river this was my best option.
Instead of trollingmotor
Good luck
Happy Holidays

I do not think that the extra weight of having two batteries will be a problem, or will it slow down the boat. I had the exact same Nitro Bass boat, and it came and e with a 70 lb trust MinnKota and 70 LB trust was not enough. I upgraded to a 108 LB trust Minnakota, and it had no problems in the heavy current of the Columbia River. You need to remember that if you upgrade past your 70 LB trust motor to a higher trust motor like mine if you just set the speed to one on the foot pedal ad least be getting 60 lb of thrust and at the setting of two your boat be getting somewhere in the 90lb trust area and just the 90 lb trust will be all that you need, and the other speeds will almost be useless put still ready is needed even if you had three batteries in your boat. I had a two battery setup on my 108 trust motor, and it pulled my 14-foot Nitro just fine, and it was only set to speed two. Even my old 70 LB Minnkota would pull my two battery setup without a struggle.

I hope this helps.
