Well after we got back from dinner with our wife’s, Dan got it in his head we should go fishing… “Dan, it’s 7:30, sunsets in 1/2 hour” and I didn’t bring any rods, baits, nothing. OK let’s go, what the heck, if you insist and won’t stop talking about going… 1st fish in less than 5 minutes, 2 more on way in. Got back to the dock at 8:15 PM Pixs of fish and beautiful Lake Norman North Carolina at sunset.

Went to Folly Beach this morning. Kept the skunk away but only got one small Croker. Nice and relaxing morning. Kathy and Lily enjoyed the beach also.

A Croker a Day keeps the Skunk away…

Dan and me got out Tuesday afternoon on a warm cloudy day at Lake Norman in North Carolina * We got a few White Bass and Dan got a nice Spot Bass, only 2nd time out this year, marked lots of bait, still trying to figure out this Spring pattern. It was a good day to be on the lake and we broke out the Pringles, Jerky and of course a few silver bullets… tight lines.

After a short, mild winter here at Lake Norman NC, me and Dan got out on the water Sunday for a couple hours on a mostly sunny 70 degree but breezy afternoon. It was a shorts and t shirt day. Dan wanted to break in a couple new ugly sticks he got over the holidays… 1st hour nothing biting but the beer sure did taste better being on the water… I kept messing around with different baits… then KABOOM! An old silver colored Rebel medium (6-8’) diving crankbait was clearly what they were looking for. Tight lines!

Hello to everyone out there and Happy New Year to all.
My name is Jerry. I am advid surf fisherman who loves to surf fish from Ft Fisher to Hatteras. I am truly looking forward to a chat or a chance to stand on the beach and fish with anyone willing.
Today is December 31, 23.
I was wondering if there are still any whiting or drum in the surf in the Ft Fisher/Kure beach area.
Happy New Year to all
Jerry

Hey Jerry, I was over in Wilmington NC a couple of weeks ago and there was a couple of guys just leaving from fishing from the bank with sand fleas. They had 2 coolers filled to the top with whitings. There was a guy 100 yards down fishing with shrimp and he had only 3 whitings in his bucket… sand fleas are clearly the better bait. Tight lines and good luck!

Is it safe to eat them?

Yes, hybrids and Stripers are cold water game fish, not bottom feeders like carp and catfish… yes we eat them and yes they are delicious. Many times Hybrids get so stressed out they actually die as soon as you land them, they literally leave all their fight in the water.

What kind of fish can I get out of Lake Hartwell in Westminster,SC area?

I usually Fish Hartwell a couple times a year, although I didn’t make it over there in 2023… Lake Hartwell has trophy Hybrid Striped Bass and monster Stripers like this one. This is a great time to go fishing there, I have had good luck with large jigging spoons and live shiners. Good luck and tight lines

If they want to keep Pro Bass Tournaments at LKN they need to do something… the spots have taken over the lake… I have caught 100’s of them and they rarely go over 3-4 lbs, not exactly what those guys want to weigh in. Also for the tourism and recreational fishermen the Stripers are all but non existent and big hybrid stripe bass like these from a month ago are getting harder and harder to find. Like most things… follow the money… tight lines!

There was a guy 100 yards down from those 2 guys using shrimp, he had 3 in the box... if you have a sand flea rake you will fill a cooler in a couple hours.

Yeah, lots of Bozos… hey what “coastal area” you settle in to… we make it to the NC & SC coast several times a year… we port out of Charleston a lot and hit the reefs… Comanche is my favorite.

Well like the earlier reply, lots of pleasure boaters out there in spring and summer… I have seen them run right over planer boards cause they don’t have any idea what they are… I only fish there September thru December

New to NC, living in coastal area but would like to try Lake James for walleye.
Any suggestions for best time of year and techniques?

We mainly fish for Smallmouth in Oct Nov and Dec pulling shiners and have caught some nice walleye and perch (by accident) in 40’ of water, a buddy fishes there often and swears by silver 1 oz jigging spoons in 40’ water, he goes at 1st light, water is really low this year so we have not been, here’s a couple pics from last fall.
