Sorry to even ask: You're wading, got a fish on and you net it. What do you do with your rod while you release the fish?
There is a great gadget for sale which holds your rod easily. Check it out at Cabela's, Orvis etc.
It sells for about $20.00 and the best part....it works.

New to surf fishing questions
I would start with cast & wait for a variety of fish. Lures are for select fish only. Buy both the same. If one goes bad you have instant replace parts.

Where do I put my rod and reel when I’m changing flies on the water?
A decent fishing vest has a loop at the bottom and a velco strap near the top to hold it. However that $30 gadget works great...spend the bucks !!!!!
