I was out there 4/12 with my 6 & 4 year old grand kids. We just caught Pin Fish as fast as we dropped the lines in. The folks around me caught Sheepshead and Trout.
Everyone was using shrimp.
We bought our shrimp on the pier. I was pleased with the price and size.
That looks photo shipped to me. That fish would weigh 300 lbs. not 52lbs
My fishing partner and I were 12 miles out in the Gulf out of Tarpon Springs, FL. We looked down and saw thousands of Jelly fish passing under the Boat. They were as far wide as we could see in any direction and as deep down as we could see. I tried to take pictures but because the water reflected and I was anxious, I didn’t get a picture worth keeping. They continued to pass for 23 min. It was spectacular. The jelly Fish averaged 6-8” across. I think they were Moon Jelly Fish.
I’ve fished this area for 3 years and never saw it again.
I made $18.00/ week as pool life guard at my College pool. I worked 12 hrs/ week so $1.50/ hr.
I also cut lawns at $3.00/ lawn regardless of size or time it took.
When I was making $18/wk, I was a Freshman in College and took my girlfriend to lunch at Hardee’s 3-4 times a week. Hamburgers were $0.15 and a drink was $.010. So I could feed her for $0.25 (no taxes on food in those days).
I use to pray she didn’t want french fries.
SIMPLER TIMES
I’m from NC and fished Jordan Lake many times for Crappie. The lake is full of Crappie. But you asked about Cat Fish. I took two brothers out Cat Fishing and I used my “go to bait” Night Crawlers. I was catching fish but they were catching way more than me. I asked what they were using and they said “hot dogs”. They broke off a 1” section of raw hot dog and put it on their hooks.
When I fish for Cat Fish now, I may have a Night Crawler on one line but you better believe I have a hot dog on the other.
A warning. Jordan Lake was created by damed the rivers and caused flooding. All of the trees and debris are still there. You will loose a lot of equipment fishing on the bottom.
You are right it is the Fred Howard Bridge. 76 yrs old and get mixed up a lot.
Where I was fishing the size limit is 25” - 19”. The number limit is 3 trout on the left side of the bridge and 5 on the other side. The county line must run down the middle of the road.
Most game wardens won’t fine you if you have 5 fish.
I don’t trust that (they may be having a bad day and fine me). I take 3 fish and give anything more to fishermen not reaching their limit.
The bridge I was referring to is in Howard Franklin Park. There is a 1/2 mile rd that runs out to the beach. There are two bridges on that road. I fish the 2nd bridge.
I was able to reel these in. Other more experience”bridge fishermen” swung there catches up easily. I have torn rotary cups in both shoulders, so that’s not an option for me.
I’m looking for net’s now.
I blew the engine in my pickup truck and had a new motor installed. I can’t haul my boat until the new motor has been broken in (3,000 mi).
Meanwhile, I’m learning to fish from Frank Howard bridge in Tarpon Springs, FL.
I went fishing Tuesday for 1 1/2 hrs and caught these three beautiful trout. I had to release one that was over the limit, and a few got away. But all in all a wonderful day.
With the low cost of fishing from a bridge and the short amount of time required to produce this catch, I may never put the boat back in the water.
They do make 25 volt batteries. Most are over $100.00 but Auto Zone sales theirs for $97.00.
I personally use 2 - 12 volt Marine batteries from Walmart.
Fish from the 2nd bridge you come to. Watch the tide. You want to fish from the side of the bridge where the current will take your line out. It will change directions with the tide.
Live bait ( shrimp), little to no weight.
My wife and I are retired and it’s just the two of us. We use the “Air Frier Oven”.
Air Friers have pull out drawers snd most of the time you have to shake the drawer or open the drawer and toss the fries or meat.
The Air Frier Oven opens from the front and has three to five wire mesh shelves that slide in. The air circulates thru the shelves so no turning or shaking is necessary.
We cook sausage, hot dogs, chicken, pork chops and fish in ours.
Note: the closer you put an item near the top, the crisper it will be.
When cooking fish, baste it with oil and seasoning. DO NOT ADD FLOUR!
I use my Air Frier Oven once or twice every day.
