We have a kids/family fishing program and people donate tackle to us daily. I have a few of these and we keep em out on display with all kinds of other antique/strange stuff. Nobody I've met has seen these so they're always getting picked up and questioned. Looking forward to the comments here.

Many times. Never caught more than a 2 lb'r but hundreds of smaller bass. I've had days there where we'd catch 30 small bass. It's a fun.lake and I know there's good fish in there. Haven't been back since it was last drained because of the mussels. Have fun. Go in the summer and you can swim.

Sounds like a fun day to me. Nice fish. Grew up fishing that lake and still love any day out there. Thx for sharing that with pics. Nice.

It's easier to lie about the big one that got away when I'm by myself. 🙃

I always love those fishing products that have a mystery to them. No information on it anywhere. I volunteer with a kids fishing program(Reel Guppy Outdoors) where we get donations of people's old tackle. There's alot of strange stuff out there that we've yet to identify and figure out. This is one of them. Cool bobber though.

I still do it. Good old habits are hard to break. My immune systems great so I've not stopped till this day. Fist bumps are thrown at me alot these days. I'm OK with that but they'll get the open hand first.

Back then there was no such thing as private water. The land around the lake was considered private property. That's why we paddled up river. He wanted us on shore so then we could get trespassing charges. Coming in from the river was something he didn't want to deal with as the river banks were public. Like I said, we spent a year watching and planning. Times have surely changed here in California since then.

On second thought Gary go to the end of 5th St off Harbor Blvd. Hike as far as you want down towards the old Edison plant. If you wanna hike far enough there's a river channel that comes and goes. Anywhere around there is great as long as you understand currents, topography and surf fishing. There's other great spots out by the Ormond Beach. Hueneme Rd and Arcturus Rd or Arnold Rd area. If you wanna hike out to the other old Edison plant we have there's some awesome surf fishing down there. We've got alot of deserted beaches so hopefully you catch them on a day when nobody else feels like making the walk. Theres a few others but those two outta do you right.. The worst thing that can happen is you have a beautiful day at a deserted spot. Best of luck. Enjoy.

It use to be a popular lake back in the days before the damn cracked. It's since filled up with dirt and debris (looks more like a river now instead of a lake) and is scheduled for demolition but.....it is California so that plans going through some serious review.

So many great places here in Ventura Co. I live in Oxnard so I fished em all. I'd sure like to share the spots with you but lately there's too many people hiking out to em already. I've been focusing on halibut only and yeah, they're here. We had a great perch tournament years back before covid. Great surf fishing here for sure.

Years back a friend and I use to sneak into a closed lake that was watched by a ranger. After a year of watching his schedule we'd get there in the dark, hike down the cliffs, hide in the bushes and blow up our rafts. Once he did his early morning pass it was on the water. Catching 6-10 pound bass nonstop is addicting. Once we caught over 30 of them. All released and documented. We pulled that off for a year with everyday completely documented. Size, weight, water temp, baits used, spot on the lake, etc. We finally got caught when the Ranger came a different time. It was inevitable. We paddled up river into the woods while he was up on the cliff yelling at us to come to shore. He gave up on us. That was a long scary walk down that one road to the truck. Great days indeed.
