I bought this bobber decades ago and I've never used it. If you can tell me how it's used, I'll know that it won't be wasted on you and I'll send it to you. FREE! No strings attached (pun intended).

It says on the bottom "Spin Free". It was made in Livermore, CA but I can't find any evidence that the company still exists.

I’m guessing it’s actually a top … a toy that spins but the colors make it look like it’s a bobber.

It might be helpful if we could see where the wire coming from the top goes.... we're obviously not seeing it's purpose. O-ring at the bottom is indicative of retaining SOMETHING, most likely line. Need to see more to make any kind of determination. Could possibly be a precursor/alternative to "slip bobbers", as the groove near the top seems a likely spot to wrap some line....IDK. Would love another angle to observe.
Just the kind of gadget "mystery" I like....

A bobber to fish with for handline no rod needed. Groove is for storing line.

I agree with Dbed. This has more suspense than any mystery I have seen lately.

Never seen one like that but definitely not a top. My guess is you slide the O ring up, put your line in the slit and slide the O ring back down then cast it out and get your line tight when a fish grabs it. Looks like the bottom shaft of the bobber slides up so you can put line around it and then put line in slit and secure it with O ring. Don’t know what the wires purpose is though.

Casting bobber. The o ring is to seal the water inside it that is used as weight for casting.

Emits bait like bloodworms.

Hey Barny, it looks like you run your line through the wire somehow on the top and the line goes down through the grove/slit on the bottom. You somehow wind it up and push the pin in the bottom up to lock it in. then when a fish pulls on the hook the pin comes down and the top spins and sets the hook by winding up the line.
At least it looks like something along those lines. Hard to tell without lookin at it in person.

Closest yet, but no cigar! I've been vague about it, hoping that someone who remembered these and wanted one would recognize it.

OK, hint: The black O-ring is the top end, the red end is the bottom.

Do it backwards then. Run your line through the slit/O ring down through the wire that has been wound up. When the fish takes it under the wire trips and it sets the hook and winds up line.
