Fish in Lake folsom
Hey Joe! Welcome to the forum. Tried my luck off the bank yesterday at Browns Ravine, but the fish didn't get the memo. Folsom looks alot better, but it was still a 5 min. walk to the water. Good Luck!
Hey Fick and welcome. I've only fished Paradise twice, and had no luck myself, but it was beautiful. Had the whole damn lake to myself. Interested in new tips and tricks myself.
Nice fish! Been out twice around Garcia Bend and have had no luck. A Pox upon jet skis!
Hey Buck Snort, thanks so much for the advise! I was getting ready to add Shad to my "Mythical Fish" list. We will definitely give your suggestions a try.
Took my buddies fishing the Sacramento River under the the Freeport Bridge yesterday for Shad. Anchored about 75 yards downstream of the bridge. We started with darts and spoons. The boat beside us was pulling in a fish about every 10 minutes. We caught a sock. Didn't even have a foot in it. Four lines in the water and not a single nibble for 3 hours. Tried different spoons, darts, plastic grubs, different weights. Nothing. Meanwhile the party continued beside us.
The other guys rigs were hard to see, but the tackle looked twice the size of what we were using, and they might have been using cut bait? Not sure. We were saved from the total skunk while trolling back to the marina, with my buddy bringing in this small striper. Still beat the best day of work and, watching those other guys having so much fun was entertaining in itself. I'll get those shad figured out some day. (included the picture of the sock, it put up quite the fight)
Awesome advice guys. Now all I have to do is find more room in my tackle box. That's harder than finding the fish sometimes. Thanks, I'll look for that tail slap!
Has anyone had any luck using a a top water lure for striped bass? Just curious.
It think it depends on whether or not you are keeping the fish or not. If you're going to catch and release then holding either by the gill or lower jaw is bad for the fish. I've read that holding by the lower jaw can damage it and make it impossible for it to swallow anything and they will starve to death.
Has anybody else heard that ?
Happy to hear your place survived both fire and bears.
I fish the Freeport area. Had some luck earlier this summer trolling with deep diving lures. Lately, the only thing we are getting hits on are the finesse rigs, specifically the Texas and Ned rigs, and even then it' spotted bass not the stripers. I've tried throwing lipless crankbaits but with no luck, but I don't think I'm working them right with the river current. Nothing on cut bait at all. Hope this helps.
Nice fish! You're having better luck with stripers than I am on the Sacramento. I just can't find them and it's getting frustrating. Got any tips?
Boat problems suck, hope it's an easy fix.
Must have been an epic battle! (next time get it as close to the camera as you can, that's what I do)
Awesome. I went thru the same thing. Hadn't been fishing in 35 yrs., and a buddy of mine got me back in to it about 4 years ago. It's just like riding a bicycle, once learned you never forget. I'm in Sacramento too, and have been fishing around Garcia Bend. Hope you catch your limit and have fun.
Anyone having any success yet with salmon in the Sacramento or American rivers yet?
