Congrats on a great Minnesota Pike!
Baypoint Park right in Red Wing or the concrete pier in Lake City are two good shore fishing spots.
Use jigs / half crawler, leeches, or even minnows or plastics. Half crawlers and leeches have been best for me recently.
A Lindy Rig or Slow Death rig will also produce now.
During low light periods you can also cast cranks
Gull Lake is VERY clear and can have a lot of recreation on it. For both of those reasons, the low light (morning and evening) are the typical times for the walleye bite (unless it is overcast and/or there is a walleye chop). The night bite after dark can even be better.
Fish the break lines and points. Lindy rigs and jigs are popular live bait choices, but trolling cranks can produce also
Big wind would be the ONLY hurdle you may encounter
You will find the Smallmouth fishing WORLD CLASS!
You will be in good hands with a guide - a pretty easy Lake to learn.
You will be there at a good time for bass, walleye, and pike ... could even catch a muskie!
That must have been a dogged battle!
Classic reel by the way!
JDM - BWCA walleyes and smallies can be both caught on jigs & soft plastics. I also take in some cranks for both. I do take some leeches and crawlers in as my only live bait.
Some top water (Whopper Popper / Spooks) are also a lot of fun for SM and Pike.
You won't see many people at all unless you are on the easiest to get to lakes right by Ely, otherwise, the people you will see will be very minimal
Very well - very busy with Student teachers through WSU, but after this week (and when the River isn't flooding) I will be having a lot of time to fish!
Great information Leo - I loved reading it.
You are still a great teacher!

The Warmouth is a member of the sunfish family that has a very large mouth (bass like). It looks like a cross between a sunfish and a rock bass, but is its own species.
Congrats on the new boat!
Made in Minnesota!
I have had 4 Lunds … you will love it!
Minnesota’s state fish is the WALLEYE!
It is a great source of pride in our state and is served in most restaurants that serve fish!
There are a lot of great fish in the land of 10,000 lakes, but this is the right choice for the North Star State!
