Hello everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could lend me some advice on good, accessible locations to fish from the shore around Red Wing, MN. Additionally, if you have bait suggestions (and any other suggestions), I'd appreciate it! I've been fishing a number of times and to date, I have one catch to my name. It was a 2 pound (or so) small bass up at my buddies cabin on North Twin Lake near Eagle River, WI. But I digress.

Thanks!

James

Just want to welcome you to FS, James. It’s a great place to hang out, share, and learn. Unfortunately, I can’t help you with tips for Mn fishing, as I’ve only fished there once, for a few days nearly 60 years ago. I do remember catching a lot of Northern Pike on red/white striped “daredevils”.
Hopefully others will be along to help you!

Fishing the Mississippi, you can use a 5 oz weight and fish off the bottom with cut bait and or crawlers. The smallies like jerk baits and crawlers small spinners and jigs. If there are panfish around worms should do the trick. Try parks and boat landings on the river and go from there. Good luck!

Baypoint Park right in Red Wing or the concrete pier in Lake City are two good shore fishing spots.

Use jigs / half crawler, leeches, or even minnows or plastics. Half crawlers and leeches have been best for me recently.

A Lindy Rig or Slow Death rig will also produce now.

During low light periods you can also cast cranks
