Does your state have one?
Do you agree?
If not, what fish should it be & why?
How often do you target it?
Here in NJ it is the native brook trout. Yes there are still natural trout streams in the Garden State, although most Brookies caught are hatchery raised & stocked.
If you’re not in the 🇺🇸 USA, do you have a location specific species distinct to your region, province or homeland?
Thanks
Mickey
South Dakota's state fish is the Walleye. Best possible choice.

Thanks Richard E!
Great eating I’m shore.
Not a targeted fish here - although have caught them in the Delaware River.
I suspect that the beautifully marked brook trout is a favorite of many. The powers that be in the State of Michigan also have adopted the "brookie" as the State fish....
One of my favorite archive photos taken about 10 years ago. Caught in the Boardman River, which is undergoing a restoration process to increase the population of these beautiful brook trout!

Never knew that.
Are they similar to spotted bass or smallmouth?

The garibaldi is the state marine fish of California, which gives it protected status.
Pa is right in line Mickey Our state fish is the brook trout also. We do have a lot of mountain streams that have a fishable population
Muskellunge here!
I have caught a few, but never targeted them.
