2008 Starcraft 176, 115 hp merc, powerdrive with spot lock, also a 14 ft jon with 6 hp merc, and hand held minn kota. I'm going to have to learn how to post pic's. I'm ready to move up, mabe 6 ft. for bigger water.
Busted my prop Sunday, just got a replacement SS today.. I can get off dry land tomorrow. Going for tout and redfish.
I did notice cocktail hour starts early down here. Thumbs up to that.
@mistred64 Like you I'm a snow bird, renting on a canal parallel to Edgewater. that's how I found this site. Frustrated, not catching anything.I have not had any luck fishing in these canals. There is a pier under 41 on Port Charlotte side. I've seen people catching fish there. Going home March 15. if I find any spots to fish I'll report back.
I saw Frank, at a boat show a couple week ago giving fishing lessons. He is not going to re open. On his website there are several place's he points out to fish.
About a couple weeks ago we went to Ft Meyers beach. There was dead (small) fish washing up on shore. There was a Fishing tournament last week end. In Punta Gorda. No one was allowed to keep fish, or bring them into weigh in. Take pic, only. i have a friend that was in the contest. He said do not eat the fish. New here, I think it is an annual event.
The local news said, the smell at the beach, could cause respiratory problems.
I got here mid December, From IN, there is a bait shop across the bridge in Punta, called lashley' they have live shrimp. Are you bringing boat? You will not get to keep any fish. Red tide. Catch and release any thing you want. But have a ball.
I have a Power drive 2, recently changed it over to spot lock, What and awesome change, benefit. Love it.
Follow up, using live shrimp for bait is the key, Probably caught 60 fish now. Been catching Spotted trout, Sheepshead, mangrove snapper, Still not used to skinny water. tore up two AL props. Have a SS ordered. As you already know location is key to fishing. Takes awhile to discover honey holes.
Almost forgot these, thanks for reminding ,
Hey Qween down, I 'm from Indiana, parked down in Port charlotte for 3 months, I to have caught one snook. They are a nice fight. Have fun.
Fished 4 hours not much luck, but a great day to be out in the boat. I tried a 5 inch swim bait with paddle tail. As some recommend.
