Nice report! Sounds like you had a really nice spring day out there. It only gets better from now on as season progresses.

Hey any Striper action on the NJ shore? Jonesā€™in to get out. Hereā€™s some fish porn from fall ā€˜23

Welcome aboard Scott! Stripers have been active in the bays since March 1st and showing on beaches now. Bloodworms were the ticket but clams are working now too. Some good ones being caught but the spring run hasnā€™t quite started yet. Some good numbers of Tog being taken now too with some keepers off the jetties in Barnegat inlet, not sure about up your way but Iā€™d bet on it. Green crabs for them.

Itā€™s not often you see an Osprey get skunked. For that matter, itā€™s not often that you get skunked either from what I see on this forum.

For rivers Iā€™d recommend breathable stocking foot waders with studded felt sole boots. For the ocean wading in sand I still like stocking foot waders because the boots have more support and are easier to walk around in deep sand. However a lot of surf fishermen prefer the boot foot waders because they donā€™t get sand in them . I ve found if you use gravel guards and keep your feet moving you can minimize the amount of sand that gets between the neoprene stockings and the boots. Frogg Toggs Hellbender for boot foot , Anura for stocking foot.

I would like to add that felt sole on the the beach is not recommended. Also you really need to rinse everything well with fresh water after using in saltwater. Iā€™ve been using my Frogg Toggs Breathable stocking foot waders for 6 yrs in the surf and they have no leaks . They also come with built in gravel guards. They are the most comfortable waders Iā€™ve ever worn.

Hey guys, I am looking into buying a pair of chest waders and iā€™ve looked at the 2 different types (stocking foot and regular with the plastic boots). I know you guys are probably more experienced in this stuff than I am. So, I was wondering which ones you guys think I should buy. I will most likely be using these to wade in rivers and bays and the ocean to fish for stripers and blues. Let me know! Thanks!

I live in Ocean county nj any1 catching anything on surf or from shore in the bay?

I hear some white perch are being caught in the rivers close to the bays. Tomā€™s River,Bass River, Mullica, egg harbor, .
Things should start picking up as We press a little further into March and temps warm a bit. Holdover bass will become more active. We are still pretty far away from the spring run for stripers.

Welcome aboard! I fish your area pretty often spring thru fall. A bit early for me right now. I usually launch at Great Bay. Probably not before April. Might try for perch and early stripers from land in March. Post If you have any luck.

You can never network enough if you're a serious angler, looks like this site is seriousšŸ˜Ž. I fish year round, fresh or salt or both,so I can provide some pretty fresh info. For example, my son and I fished yesterday first for perch, then hit a pond on the way home. Ill go to report section and see what I need to do to submit it Thanks again for the add ! . Peace ,Ferd

I prefer to catch and release.

If youā€™re targeting them you can get a ticket. It doesnā€™t matter if youā€™ve kept any. The fine is for attempting to catch striped bass. Keeping a striped bass is another ticket/fine. If you accidentally catch one on a perch rig and quickly release it youā€™ll be ok. If youā€™re fishing with a big circle hook and bait or with a big top water plug they know you arenā€™t targeting perch. Just trying to help you out here, nobody needs to pay a fine if it can be avoided.

Where are the best places to catch Stripers from the shore?

Just a reminder here, it is illegal to target stripers in creeks rivers and back bays until March 1st. You can still target them in the ocean from the beaches and boats out to 3miles line, however your chances of catching any now are very slim.

Grass shrimp are the most important food source for all the fish we seek in our back bays. Clean out any cooler at the end of a trip and you will find grass shrimp regurgitated by your fish.
We are entering our white perch season in South Jersey and although bloodworms will catch they won't match what fresh grass shrimp can do. I ran a Bait and Tackle shop in Wildwood and we had the perfect location for catching winter grass shrimp. They don't migrate because they are just too slow to go any distance. They stay put and wait for the spring warmup to begin breeding.
This time of year they do feed but being cold blooded the don't need much and they have to conserve as much energy as they can. This is when you need to find some quiet waters to score well.
I use a square umbrella style drop net and bait it with just about anything you have that can stay on a bait clp attached to the drop net. Our dock was located on a narrow waterway that had tidal waters moving through. Difference was that there were two openings in our little waterway with one to the south and one to the north. This caused the water to rise and fall but not much straight through water movement. We were more like a tub with the tide going up and down rather than in and out. The shrimp loved it here. They could jeed on tiny organisms and alge on the bottom without trying to hold on so they didn't get swept away.
I'd hang a piece of bunker from the bait hook I attached to the center post of the drop net and just let it sit on the bottom for an hour or two. When I would lift the net I was amazed at how many shrimp were in it.
Her are some pics of the net with my catch. Notice the while under the net. That was snow covering the deck.

Nothing but shrimp. This is what my net looks like.

Hello all, I recently discovered this forum and have enjoyed reading the various posts so I figured Iā€™d share the results of my last outing for the year. Went striper fishing with 2 of my brothers on the 29th and had 11 from 24ā€ to 36ā€. We all went home with a keeper and pulled the boat, already looking forward to March 1st!
Happy New Year to all and best wishes for a healthy, happy year with tight lines.

Happy New Year! And welcome aboard! Where about did you find them? I fish a lot around the south end of LBI, but I am mobile, tow my boat so anywhere theyā€™re biting works for me. Of course, Iā€™m winterized now waiting for March or probably April before I fire it up for spring run.

I used gulp from jar with aged brown colored juice and caught fish all summer, sometimes when people with me were using brand new gulp from packages with clear juice caught nothing. Thatā€™s a fact.

What's your favorite fish to fish for?
What's your favorite time of year to fish?
You prefer to fish alone or with a partner?

You don't have to answer all the questions.
Just would like to hear some answers from some of y'all. Thanks.

As if you didn't know, I prefer to fish for Stripers.
Spring and summer are nice but I think fall might be best.
I prefer to fish twice a week but have fished as many as 3 to 5 times a week when I had my own boat.
I use to fish bout 150 + days a year.
Now I'm lucky if its 40 days a year.
I think I prefer to fish with a partner, but don't mind if it's by myself either.

Look forward to seeing your answers. Thanks.šŸ¤ šŸ‘

Iā€™m pretty much anymore fishing for stripers in spring and fall and fluke from May through September. Iā€™ve been thinking of getting after some other species more often white perch in the winter and early spring. Tog aka Tautog when they are on rocks and wrecks and when I can get to them. Also blowfish in summer could provide some activity for the kids and they are good to eat too. I have fished salt water only over the last 6-7 years and that always takes a little more time and effort to get to my spots but thatā€™s where my interest lies now and Iā€™m hoping to get out fishing more in the future.
