Went fishing in Manasquan Inlet this afternoon on a cold, sunny day with a norā€™easter small craft advisory and incoming tide. Ocean was very rough with no surfers. Few boats were on the water and few fishermen were on the jetty. Two spear fishermen shot 3 blackfish and a striped bass. Oystercatchers, osprey, loons, cormorants and gulls were nearby. A seal pup was sleeping on the beach when I arrived and still there when I left. I reported it to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine, NJ. Caught, tagged and released 2 30ā€ bluefish to 9 lbs with a very old #2 stainless steel Japanese metal squid during the early bite. Many big blues were caught over the fence. I took lots of photos.

Nice bands, good to see that the larger bluefish are coming back. The last few years have been pretty slim pickings.

What I enjoy about your post here bands is your appreciation for all of nature. I thank you for sharing your pictures which allows me to see a variety of God's creation that I would never experience living here in the middle of the country.

Great pics, Bands. You sure that pup was just sleeping and not injured? Did you climb out on the rocks this time?

Looks like you had a great time Bands. Thanks for sharing šŸ‘. You sure the little fellow wasn't hurt. In the different pics it looks like he had been moving around some.

The Marine Mammal Stranding Center said that they are sending a volunteer to check the seal šŸ¦. An ambulance arrived and 2 EMTs checked the pup and decided that it was okay. I still fish šŸŽ£ on the rocks šŸŖØ at age 77 but it is too difficult and dangerous. My neighbor Gus E. died on the jetty. A fisherman from Canada made a fatal fall into the dolos. I always fish šŸŽ£ away from the crowd, but the crowd always comes to my spot. It is very challenging to land a big fish šŸ  in swift water with light line. Another fisherman usually catches my line then I lose my fish of a lifetime. Modern fishermen have no respect for others. Itā€™s a miracle whenever I land a big fish šŸŸ in the most densely populated state of NJ.

Glad to hear about the pup and sadly, must agree with the lack of respect for personal space.
