We cut the head off gut them and fry the whole thing.
Down here you have to be careful when shining for frogs.
We have other creatures who like frogs too. Water moccasins and gators.
We grab frogs with our bare hands so you have to be careful.

RJS, you wouldn't know the Lafayette Petroleum Club now. With the loss of the oil industry, anyone can join. Food was always mediocre but the drinks were strong and deals were made daily. It was the place to see folks and to be seen. I'm 76 and am so glad I worked in the industry when we were all having fun.

Try watching your line right where it enters the water. Any movement will indicate a fish.

There are no easy jobs on or near a rig.
In my job, I very seldom had to go near a drilling rig.
New hires were always begging for a chance to go work for a while on the rigs.
None of them wanted to go back after their shift.
It's like hunting in south Texas. Every thing wants to hurt you.

Sorry for your loss. Now at 76 it happens too often now.
Started in the oil industry as a draftsman in 1966.
Worked for a few smaller companies and ended up working 20 years for Amoco until BP bought us out.
Still hate the Amoco board who let that happen.
After Amoco I worked for some more small companies until 2006 then decided hunting and fishing was what I needed to do.
Happy in retirement but I had such a great job as an oil scout when we still had an oil industry.

I fish south Louisiana and I'm getting ready to buy a new trolling motor.
They all have a lot of features now but the only thing I'm interesting in is the anchor/spot lock.
The choice is between saltwater version of Minn Kota Terrova and Motor Guide Xi5.
Will get a 24 volt model.
All of my fishing is in brackish and salt water.
What have you used and what is your recommendation?
Thanks, Scout

The original writer has already lost the battle. Thinking about it for days ahead of the trip is a guarantee you will get sick. Fished offshore Louisiana for years and know that seasickness is a fate worse than death. If anyone on my boat made fun of someone who got sick, it was their last trip on my boat. I have been with fulltime charter captains who got sick and I drove their boat for them. You never know when it will hit you. take the Dramamine. One 2 hour before and another when you are ready to get on the boat. Think about the fishing not what might never happed. Try to stay away from anyone who is sick. Plan on a good trip and a lot of good eating when you get home. Good luck.

The claim that it's r****t to insist on a picture ID to v**e is BS. Do any of you know anyone who doesn't have a picture ID?
Fourchon is correct, we need picture ID here in Louisiana to v**e. And if HR-1 passes the United States of America is finished. There will never be a conservative ever elected again. The congress will be all clones of Pelosi, Schumer, AOC, Omer, Tlaib etc.
God help us.

For those who don't know where Slidell is, I'll tell you.
It's north of New Orleans on Lake Pontchartrain on the way to the Gulf Coast. Beautiful city with a lot to do.
Your choice of fishing, salt, brackish or freshwater. And you can do all of it on the same trip.
Main fish targeted are speckle trout (spotted weak fish), redfish (red drum) and flounder. Those three make up the blessed trinity. Sheepshead, black drum (16" to no more than 22") larger ones have a lot of worms. When fishing the lake and surrounding marsh areas there is no telling what you might catch. All of the above and some very nice Green Trout (bass to the rest of the country). If you are interesting in shark fishing, we have a large population in the lake. We also have a lot of stingrays so be careful. KC, you will be glad you moved here. Where are you from? If I can help you, just post here. Good luck and tight line. Wayne

Steve, the gnats and mosquitoes have been horrible. I think they have crossbred with sharks and piranhas.
Gus' Tackle and Nets has a good selection of repellents.

Steve where you will be, the chance to catch a red or speckle trout is slim. There is a place near where you can bank fish that is right off of Lake Pontchartrain. Look up The Dock and you should find a map. There is a lot of dock area for fishing and crabbing. They are in the process of rebuilding and re-naming but it's no problem to fish there. Make sure you have a non-residence fishing license. Though of another good restaurant, Phil's Marina Cafe. Good fishing.

Steve, I live in Slidell and know exactly where you will be. You will be a long distance from Lake Pontchartrain but you should be able to catch a variety of perch (we call all panfish perch) and maybe a bass or two. Freshwater catfish are usually in the area. There is a good bait shop on Front St (Hwy 11) that has crickets and worms, ask for cold worms, they are big enough to cut in 3-4 pieces. Get a few crab nets and bait them with chicken or turkey necks. Turkey necks are best. Nets and tackle can be bought at Gus' Tackle and Nets. Very close to where y'all will be and they can answer any questions you might have. Some good eating places near you are Southside, KY's (the owners initials), Nathan's (across the bayou near the bridge) a little expensive but one of the few white table cloth restaurants in Slidell. A great place for catfish and seafood dishes is Middondorf's. If you go there get the thin cut catfish. Have a great trip and enjoy the Slidell hospitality. Let me know on this forum if you need anything. Good fishing and tight lines.
