Sandys_Pirate: Well, being as how you asked, go to your nearest Walmart, Bass Pro Shop, or similair, and check out their selections of Ugly Sticks. Then buy the one you find most suitable. This is not rocket science, but just fishing, and everyone has different tastes.

Your tastes will probably change over time so there's not need to spend any more than necessary. In fact, if you see something else besides an Ugly stick that you fancy, buy that one instead. Just Sayin...RJS

I have an 8’6” irod gen lll extra heavy mag baitcast rod paired with a Okuma Citrix 364 reel that I use for fishing BIG swimbaits for BIG bass. This one of my setups that I’ll be taking to surf fish in Baja Sur Mexico this summer! You can find the irod series of rods ( unbelievable for the price ) and the Okuma Citrix 364 on Tackle Warehouse. Com...

There is no best in anything! There is only what people like and what they don't like. One guy thinks a certain brand is the best rod ever and the next won't even use it as a garden stake. I'm not sure what you mean by "inshore casting". Generally speaking I like 6' to 7' rods for pretty much everything except ultra light. Most my rods fall into med action too, except the ultra light's of course. I've got a couple 8' casting rods and haven't a clue why I got them and don't get them out much. Maybe I'm shorting myself but I don't get to wound up in the technical side of much of anything, I simply like to catch fish!
