Welcome Stochia, I am married to a Chattanooga gal who hates fishing. I, on the other hand, was raised in the Wisconsin northwoods & have done all sorts of fishing. Like Sawheeler, I have been in Escondido over 20 years & Poway over 23 years. Nightfishing is a blast for Catfish, but there are very few lakes ( Dixon, Poway) that have nightfishing during mainly July & August. The piers in the bay & ocean are good night choices that are open year round. Good luck & tight lines.

Love the Pinocchio nose & that's a nice 'Gill, but I gotta agree with Ranger, you should've left out the part of catching gills for bait. Definitely not legal to use.

"MISS BEHAVIN" was the name I inherited with the boat I bought years ago. The boat is no longer in service but if I ever did get another one (unlikely), I loved that name & would use it again.

I have also been checked several times. While surf fishing, the ranger met me halfway across the sand after my first catch. I displayed my license and let him know that we were participating in a senior anglers tournament. He decided that there was no need to check any more for licenses. Another warden sneaked out of the bushes (like a bull moose) dressed like "Columbo". When things checked out fine, we chatted for a while. Both guy's were very courteous at each incident. I believe if your legit and don't show an attitude towards someone doing their job, things turn out well.

Hey guy's, caught 5 cats at Lake Poway last Friday. No pics as this is the 1st time I didn't bring my camera. Won't happen anymore. Lack of confidence that I would catch any to take a picture of. Biggest was about 3.5 & the stringer checked in at over 12 and a half. Anyway, they were caught between sunset & 10 p.m.

Byfon, fished a few times both north & south of Ponto & have done lousy. Everything I've seen caught is very few or very small so don't feel bad. Keep trying, it'll come.

I haven't been out in over a year due to a shoulder problem but now its all fixed and looking to get back out on the bay.
I have a Hobie Outback where are good fishing spots. I like to launch on the park just over the bridge by the moored boats.

Welcome hlear20 & glad you're able to get out again. Used to drift fish that stretch between North Island & Tom Hams Lighthouse on Harbor Island. Slayed the bass. That was years ago when I had a boat, you know the old saying, the 2 best days of your life. Also, Halibut by the Zuniga Point jetty by the harbor entrance. Dangerous waters for a small craft though. Tight lines buddy.

Use the most smelliest bait as in mackerel or chicken livers dipped in a bait dip on a sliding egg weight I used a 1/0 hook or sometimes bigger I have caught 3-5 lbs cats in several of the county parks.

just fishin is right on point with his method. I've fished "cats" in San Diego County for years and have always (well, most of the time) using just those. On occasion shrimp soaked in fish oil will trigger a bite if the "mac" or liver isn't doing it.

Nice limit Bullwinkle, which lake were you fishing?

Lake Wohlford. Nice lake, but you need to have all your stuff before you get there (license, etc.) They have some bait for sale but everything (rentals, permits) is by card only. No cash! Kind of inconvenient for those of us who choose not to run up our card balances. The rangers are great though.

I wrap it whole (with lemon juice, butter & garlic salt) in foil & toss it on the grill.

Friday, January 28th and Ready to call it a day at 2 pm since not getting a bite since arriving at the lake at 6 am. My line went tight and the drag screeched. After about 5 minutes (it seemed) I finally drug my foe up on the bank with my ultralight setup. Nice 4 3/4 pound Rainbow. As I'm unhooking him my other rod goes off. He took me in the rocks so didn't get him. Anyway, a nice 70 degree day, although windy, to be wetting a line.

I really like Walleye for freshwater and Halibut or White Seabass for saltwater. The flaky whitefish is great, but not as healthy as the oily Salmon, etc.

Hey Danger, I hooked a nice pulling fish in Mission Bay, San Diego. Turned out (wish I had a camera) that it was a pair of pantyhose hooked to my jig. Just hoping the owner wasn't still out there.
