Thanks for all the supportive comments. Such a great community and I learn so much from you all.

I cut it into steaks and steamed a few already... yes, very good eating. Fish head was used to make fish stock. To be used to make some fisherman's stew.

As for the catch, we used bunker chunks while the mate was chumming from the boat. My fish was so strong, it dragged me from one corner to the other while my fellow fishermen considerately played London Bridge under my line. Got to the other end and the fish almost pulled me over the rail. Great fight and finally pulled him in.

Caught a 34 inch striper off Long Island Sound the other night. 10 other people on the party boat with me, total 4 stripers were caught. Got the biggest one and it was my PB. Really good fight... so much fun.

Was out in Hempstead Bay then around Execution Rocks today. Zilch. Just one lonely sea robin. Hate those buggers.

With so many baits on the market, how do you justify another way to fish, or to use another lure?

For me, water body conditions dictate what I try. A weedy lake suggests using a hollow body frog, texas-rigged or wacky-rigged worm, and sometimes a football jig. I switch out if I'm not getting any hits.

Still a novice at this sport. But I welcome any feedback to my approach.

I have yet to catch one that way, but I will give it a better effort this year as lots of you have had some great success with them!

Stay with it. I played with it starting last year and watched a bunch of videos. Finally paid off. Useful in weedy water while my other lures kept getting snagged.

Nice catch Ben. I wonder, will you be using the Wacky again 😁

Will definitely keep it in the arsenal now that I finally got it to work.

My first catch ever with a wacky rigged worm. 14 inch LMB. Put up a nice fight.

I put the fish on a platter and use a wok so the whole fish fits. Steaming should take about 15-20 minutes or so depending on the size. Don't over cook... just until done and flakey. Take the fish out, put on the garnish. Then heat the sesame oil in a separate pan until it starts smoking. SLOWLY drizzle the hot oil over the fish and garnish and watch it sizzle. You'll be a hit at your dinner party! Enjoy and let me know how it goes.

Steam the whole fish with ginger, scallions, soy sauce. Finish it with hot sesame oil. Garnish with sliced scallions, ginger, and cilantro. Serve with rice. Real yummy.
