Yes its absolutely acceptable I do it quite often, you always know if you can go with you and you save alot of money on beer
I carry both but I very rarely use my spinning reels anymore the advancements in baitcaster technology has made makes throwing light lures much easier and flipping into tight spots can be done with a bit of practice, but picking one rod and reel setup to handle both light and heavy that would be tough. I'll repeat what many have already said fish with what your comfortable with and catches you fish, because it doesn't matter what your using if your catching fish and enjoying doing it who cares what kind of equipment you use right?.
