I was just there last week. I hang a submersible green light in the water at the end of a dock. We stay in the Bull Run area. Last week I had hundreds of alewives circling my light but they were all small(1 to 1 1/2 inches).

And on occasion share fishin tips.

Pony Pasture access on the James. Belle Island in banking district in Richmond. You can park at the bank and walk across a bridge that is suspended under rt. 1 to Belle Island. The island even has a small water filled quarry with fish in it. The entire river through the city has access points.

I believe that the trout guys are doing a trophy size release at crooked creek..?? Check their website for exact details but I thought it is to happen on June 8th maybe.

I'll be heading to Lake Desolation(real name) in 2 weeks and staying to work for 4 weeks. I got a cabin on Lake Desolation and will try to do some fishing. The lake is mostly LMB SMB Chain Pickerel and yellow perch. I will take day trips to look for walleye northern pike and lake trout. Any helpful info would be appreciated. I am considering a guide on Sacadnaga Lake or Lake George.

Boat ramp at Penhook has had maybe 12 uses today. They all head out of Little Bull Run to the main channel. No idea where after that. I'm set up with a 4 rod holder over a submercible green led light. The alewives? are small at 2.5 to 3 inches. Occasionally catch a 5 incher. Those are much better to use. Last night a few striper moved thru and I caught 3 that were 25 to 30 inches.

Most of the largemouth fishing is done around the docks after dark. When is your tourney? Day or night? Also which boat ramp will you be using? I am currently sitting on the deck looking out over SML. I haven't seen many fishing boats here in the Little Bull Run area. The ones that do put in at the penhook ramp take off towards the main lake. The alewives are in the shallows after dark but are very small for the most part(2.5in.) No sights or sounds of the largemouth feeding around the docks after dark yet. Probably a little to early still. The next full moon should change that. Good luck.

No bites Saturday night. Temp had dropped into the 30s. Sunday night I caught 3 from 25 to 30 inches.

I have poured quite a bit myself. I get mine fron the scrap yard/recycling center. The wheel weights do have tin in them making it light but not significantly maybe 10 to 20 percent weight loss. Last time I went to the scrap yard I bought a 5 gallon bucket a third full of large sinkers. Just need to repour it.
