I just bought a jig mold pouring setup and now I need to find some good sources for buying lead. Just wondering if anyone has any tips where I can buy the purest lead for the least amount of money. I do understand I can melt sinkers and weights that I find or have already but for now I’m looking to start with quality pure lead. Thanks!

Robok_w: No, I have never bought any lead. I have always scavanged mine. You might be able to get some at a tire shop. They are always pullilng lead weights off of wheels and discarding it. I don't know what they do with those, perhaps they sell it. You might be able to cut a deal with a local tire shop.
When I was in the Air Force, I would go out to the rifle range and pick up bullets that had been fired from .45 pistols, They were brass jacketed, but had lead cores. Just Sayin....RJS

I would investigate gun shops that sell reloading equipment. I think small diameter, maybe #6or #8 lead shot , in bulk, should be pretty cheap.
Dive shop maybe, Diving belts

Did a demo on an X-ray room at Frenchs hospital last year here in San Luis Obispo County steel stud room with 8th inch lead sheeting behind the drywall saved quite a bit of the lead-in been making sinkers out of it since when I took the rest of it to the dump in my dump trailer it weighed two and a half tons

Hi robok. I also pour my own. Forget tire weights they have alloy in them. Finding lead at gun shot a real challenge at this time. Scrap yard maybe. I go to the gun range n get mine. If the weight isn't 100% correct fish won't notice. I doubt if mass produced sinkers or jigs all weigh exact. You can buy lead strips at Do-it

Man, how come you didn't sell it?

Lot of it had drywall glued to the front of it so the pain in the ass to get all the paper off the LED
Lead flashing used in roofing could be a good source. Find it at building supply stores, maybe some hardware stores.

That being the other reason it was unsalable for recycling
Also check out old marinas and scrap yards.many old boats used lead in the keel for ballast.
