It has been a little easier on the south part of the lake. Across the lake people are having success with Keitech (white or off white), weightless senko (green or watermelon) and drop shots. I have had success on ledges/secondary points, but some people are killing it in shallow (I haven’t). Also, top water is starting to get better. Good luck!!

Does anyone have any particularly good (or bad) experience with any of the map cards for fishfinders? I am looking to add one for my Lowrance HDS Live and could use any suggestions/recommendations.

Kat seems a while back you talked about giving up your Hobie to get a bass boat. I think your never going to get that bass boat off your mind until you get it. Go for it. If it doesn't work out you can sell it.

HA! I still have the Hobie which i am going to get rid of. We have a 25 foot Monterrey that is the general boat that we use. If I could find a good hybrid that might do the trick, but I do agree with you that what I really want is a bass boat. My head (the financial and practical sides) thinks having one boat is smarter, but the rest of me wants the bass boat.

We have a deck boat/family boat and I have been planning on getting a bass boat to fish with. I had my Bass Boat brand/model picked out, but now I am wondering if I should sell the Deck Boat and get some type of hybrid family boat/fishing boat. Storage will be easier and I am sure insurance costs will be less. Is there any good combo type boats that you would recommend for a large lake like Lake Lanier?? Or would you suggest keeping the family boat and just buying a bass boat for fishing?

As stated above, the physical reel, the way the line comes off, the rod used, etc. are all different. An important thing to know is why one is used rather than the other.
Spinning Rods - much better for lighter lures. Much less likely to get a bird's-nest/line tangled. Slightly harder to properly put line on the reel to ensure it does not come off the line twisted. Can cast without using thumb or making adjustments to brakes.
Casting - often preferred for heavier lures and heavier live bait, Many people are more accurate in casting as you have a little more control, more adjustments needed between lure changes to make sure it is set up properly for best cast and less chance of bird's nest.

Both have advantages based on the situation, and the type of fish and bait you are using.

Ric,
The 360 looks great.. enjoy. As the guys mentioned, Lanier is known for spotted bass and stripers (crappie too). You will find some largemouth and assorted other fish, but 95% of the time you are reeling in Spots or Stripers. I live on the lake (north side) and while I personally have never eaten anything out of it, I know plenty of people who do. They are still living and doing well so I am guessing that Lanier is just as safe to eat out of as any large heavily populated lake.

Outdoor world rod and reel repair: 2300 east Turner: suite M:Springfield Mo.: 65803. They're great on reels but I've never used them for rods. Give them a call and see if it's what you need.

Thanks!

I have several good quality/brand rods that have been beat up over the years and have damages guides. I watched a video on how to replace them and from what I saw I am afraid I will damage the rod and probably should have a professional fix them. How do you find someone to repaid rods? I have searched on the web but can't find the service I am looking for. I am in the Lake Lanier (Georgia) area in case that helps.

Lanier is just starting to get a little more active. I have had success the last few weeks with smaller (4 to 5 inch) worms. Most success has been texas rigging 4 inch worms and fishing them pretty slowly. The key is going to be location more than anything else. I think the Southern part of the lake is likely a little better than up north. Good luck!!!

Sorry to hear about the run of "bad luck", but be grateful that you were able to get out 5 days in a row. I havent been out in weeks and don't see that changing in the near future. Good luck out there and I hope the 6th day is the streak-breaker.

Little Hall. I am up on the East Side (Wahoo) and it is really quiet there - for me at least. I am not even seeing as many people fishing that side right now which leads me to believe others are having the same result. Six Mile and Little Hall area has been decent though. You just have to fish really slow!

Lanier has been pretty slow the last few weeks. Most success I have found is around Six Mile and also Northwest of Royale.
