We have a deck boat/family boat and I have been planning on getting a bass boat to fish with. I had my Bass Boat brand/model picked out, but now I am wondering if I should sell the Deck Boat and get some type of hybrid family boat/fishing boat. Storage will be easier and I am sure insurance costs will be less. Is there any good combo type boats that you would recommend for a large lake like Lake Lanier?? Or would you suggest keeping the family boat and just buying a bass boat for fishing?

Sounds like you know the answer. Try and find the hybrid.

Kat seems a while back you talked about giving up your Hobie to get a bass boat. I think your never going to get that bass boat off your mind until you get it. Go for it. If it doesn't work out you can sell it.

HA! I still have the Hobie which i am going to get rid of. We have a 25 foot Monterrey that is the general boat that we use. If I could find a good hybrid that might do the trick, but I do agree with you that what I really want is a bass boat. My head (the financial and practical sides) thinks having one boat is smarter, but the rest of me wants the bass boat.

Good luck. Lake Lanier is a beautiful place.

My experience is that “combo” means compromise. If you can afford the bass boat then add it to your fleet.

Take a look at Hurricanes. They have a 21 ft deck that only drafts 8 in and good for family.

The Hurricane Sun Deck or Sport Deck make a good hybrid boat. I have the Sun Deck (a dual console boat) with a removable trolling motor and removable front and back swivel fishing seats and a built-in live well on ours for fishing. It has 4 batteries; 2 in back for starting, etc., and 2 mounted under the drivers console with an on-board charger for the trolling motor. For cruising or skiing, it has a removable bimini and a ski pole that mounts where the rear fishing seat mounts. You can get them from a 18' 7" to 23' or 24' with a 150 or 200 Hp motor and they will easily hold 6-8 people. Something to consider.

Keep the family boat and go order a 20 foot Ranger Bass Boat with everything and be happy you only live once why not enjoy your life... You will have to order new and it will be a 6 month wait unless they have a Bass Boat that fits your personal needs...

Good luck shopping, Skeeters 🦟 are great Bass Boats also.... I had 5 boats at the same time one for River Fishing, Lake Eire Fishing, Deep "V" for Canada Fishing🍁, two Bass Boats for different size bodies of waters... I had all of them stored at the same location...

Had the same quandary, similar at least. Moved to Henderson, NV and 20 min from Lake Mead. Wanted a boat I can both bass fish out of on my own and take family and visitors lake cruising (that was safe on big waters). After much research I ordered a Tracker Targa V18 Combo. Plenty of deep-V brands out there, but value wise and having a set up that is a “true” fishing boat yet can seat 6 comfortably was what sold me on the Tracker. I’d recommend something similar.

I have your solution. You need a bayboat. A lot of excellent makes, most are ideal for what you need. Basically they took a center console and made it into a bassboat. Has all the bells and whistles, front and rear decks, multiple live wells, tons of storage for gear and rods, trolling motor, and additional seating for those days on the water with family. I currently own a Robalo Cayman 226. Can’t begin to say enough good things about it. Will check all your boxes.
