You can look it up on YouTube with mullet fishing in Florida and get the recipe for the bait/chum. Use as small of gold hook you can find, small split shot, and small Bobber. Put split shot on bottom of line,.then maybe 6-8" above that a small gold hook with barb tied pointing up and away from line and another 6-10" above that another hook pointed the same direction. Then put your bobber to the depth that you see the mullet schooling. No bait on the hooks. Cast to where the school keeps schooling by or beyond and slowly retrieve to that spot. Then when school starts getting near, throw maybe a table spoon of chum as close to your Bobber as possible. Watch for the smallest movement of your bobber and set the hook. The mullet will bite the hook as some say resembles small grass shrimp or plankton, don't know but it works. The larger the group fishing this way seems to work even better as it keeps the entire area chummed up. One place I go to, (I go for redfish) there maybe 30- 40 people fishing shoulder to shoulder and many go home with their fifty fish limit. Also for more enjoyment, use a cane pole or a light action 8'

Kathy, I wrote you a long time ago about trying the carpet that were jumping at you for bait for catfish. Did you ever try it and if yes, how did it do? Just curious.

Remember that the oil companies had a lot of pull and were against the small very fuel efficient vehicles and financially by owning stock and voting rights tried holding that back. Also the insurance agencies were not fond of the small imports as how much damage they had in low.speed accidents and risks of bodily injury or death. You still hear some people talk about risking your life by driving a beer can, but that use to be very common to hear.
Plus WW2 Veterans despised vehicles being sold from Japan (Datson "Nisson" or Toyota) and Germany (Volkswagen) The same countries that many of them still had nightmares about fighting them, maybe lost body parts to, or lost a friend that he trusted his life to that was killed either standing, running or laying down right next to being killed.

I worked on shrimp boats for a couple of years on the Gulf o Mexico off of FL. The type of nets and frames we used were designed to be used in 3 to 15 ft of water so we did not see many man of wars and if we did it was normally after strong winds for at least a day or two, by that time they had usually been torn up but the stingers or tenicles were still effective,
One day we had one caught in the net and some of the tenicles were hanging down the side. Being a hot night the other deck hand and I worked without shirts but he was unfortunate to work the side with the jelly fish. With in minutes he was yelling and screaming and jumped off of the moving boat in the dark. I ran and told the capt man over board and we were fortunate to find him right away.. He said he had been stung and all he could think of was getting it off. We could see 6 red lines from shoulder and neck running down to his pants. He got sick over night and was throwing up everything he ate or drank for several days. When he finally got up feeling better, his back looked like he had been beaten with a bull whip, scabbed and swollen.

In process of having boat repaired. Now that I have moved more inland, I am going to try the freshwater fishing as I am very near the Harris chain of lakes and several good rivers. Have 19 ft Carolina Skiff with 50 hp Honda that runs forever on 5 gallons of gas.
Been in FL for 32 yr and just now going to try fresh. Haven't had crappie for 40 yrs and also have no problem eating Chanel cats. And absolutely will spend time throwing for bass, and still easy access to the gulf for flats, bay, river fishing, scallops, oh and snorkelling. Pretty boring, huh. Forgot frog legs and bluegills for the frier.

OK BigA, brag about your Chevy, grow up and drive the real deal and get GMC. As the dealer says, just to start off, GMC uses lock washers is just the beginning of the difference. My 2013 still rides better than my buddies 2019 Silverado.

All right, happy anniversary to all four of you, and why don't you just surprise all of us by getting together and having dinner together. Of course you would probably argue over which one of you gets to pay the bill, not who has to. MANY MORE !

Welcome BigMike, live up the road from you just east of Crystal River. Was living in Weeki Watchee until a year ago. Good area to start from as you are legal to catch and keep sea trout and red fish there and North of you. Any further south and you can't legally. Check sizes and limits when you go for liscence. The rivers hold a mixed bag of fresh and salt water fish between hwy 19 and the gulf. Scallop season is still open till Sept 24 from Hernando/ Pasco county line north. Grouper can be caught pretty much year round in as little as 15 ft around Crystal River. I would suggest a guide for that. Just remember the water does not get deep here fast, and areas have large rocks where you least expect them, so don't think you can go 1 mile off shore , get on plane and be safe. The rule is, the gulf drops 1ft per mile in this area. Some places more, some places less. Not trying to scare you, just warn you. If you taking your boat, take someone that knows the area, or buy a good chart, study it, and if you have a GPS that you can put the chart chips all the better. There is some great fishing here and a little caution and knowledge makes it a great place to live. Feel free to pm me if I can help.

Did anyone hear if Zoey and Beth and family evacuated or tried to ride it out. I am catching up on the last few days and haven't seen any mention. If not, girls let us know you're ok.

Oatmeal, lots of butter, sprinkle of cinnamon and maple syrup. Except the amount of butter I use, very healthy and delicious.
