Do you think catfish would bite on venison hot sticks?
I caught one of my largest catfish on burnt ends one summer. So it might ..lol
Everything’s worth a try once. Not sure I’d waste a venison stick on a Catfish though😁. Beef liver Yes, venison stick No

Worms been working here lately
What's a venison hot stick? I like hot. I don't like venison. I'd prolly just as-soon feed it to the catfish.

Why would you waste venison hot sticks on a bottom feeder? Put them in a Bloody Mary where they belong and use them as an edible swizzle stick! Catch a bluegill and use it as bait or a liver.
Kathysdream: They will eat anything, including your finger if they had the chance. You can use anything, the most smelly, stinky bait, anything you can stand to put on your hook and it will work if you are placing in the vacinity of where a catfish is living. Just find a likely spot and be patient, but they are usually more active at night. Just Sayin...RJS
Spirit, I can tell you’ve never eaten Kansas venison. The whitetail deer here eat pretty much the same thing that cows do and that makes them really yummy!
Ya can’t beat bluegills and the bigger the better! Big flatheads really go for big live bluegills!
Those whitetails in our corn fields in Iowa were great and so fat!! My catfish in my pond will eat anything including baby ducks and geese.

You are correct - I have never eaten corn fed deer. Corn fed squirrel? Yes. It's delicious. The woods where I used to shoot em was right next to a corn field and also full of hickory. So they feasted on hickory nuts and corn. But there were no deer to speak of when i's growing up. I understand these days they're a nuisance. That's northern Indiana. These deer here in California feed on pine nuts and acorns I guess. Sage maybe. Totally gamey and no fat. Would certainly try some corn fed.

Not what they eat, but how you take care of the meat, after it is done.
So I guess what you're sayin Harris, is that the people that were processing every piece of deer meat I've ever eaten didn't know what the hell they were doing? Either that or I just don't like the taste of venison and Rutinbuck doesn't know what he's talkin about? Hey, I'm not tryin to start anything. Would be nice to have some corn fed and some California acorn fed to make the comparison. I will say this - I know that the feed that's given to cattle makes a huge difference in the taste of the beef. Midwest corn fed beef tastes a lot different than western grass fed. So why wouldn't it make a difference in deer?
All I know boys, because I quit counting how many deer I’ve taken 10 or 12 years ago is the MuleDeer from the desert, eating sage and bitter brush tasted different than the muley‘s I got next to alfalfa fields in the timberland country and the Black Tail in the Cascades tasted even different than the Muley’s. Their all good just different and if they’re a touch Gamey they still make Great pepperoni salami or jerky. Getting them cleaned and cooled out correctly and quickly makes a big difference also. Its the same with the Elk I’ve taken Rocky Mountain taste different than the cascade Bulls and I believe that’s just the difference in the vegetation they eat, I still think they’re all great. But that’s also why I used to raise a few beef just for the ones that didn’t like what I brought home and put on the table. And with all that being said the best Deer I ever ate was a Whitetail buck I got in Idaho and he was eating soy beans and peas in the field at night hiding out in the draws during the day until I invited him home.
