On my 30 series spinning reel run 20 to 30 yards of Mono line as backing.
Then Quality 10lb Braid of any color. 10-15 feet of leader/tippet and whack'em..
Fish never see the color of the Braid line ya choose.

With a rain suit, I'll go out in a
light shower or heavy drizzle,

if I hear thunder or see lightning !

If I don't have a rainsuit, I usually
carry a box of large black leaf bags
in my truck and use one for an emergency poncho if the weather turns bad while I'm fishing ! Smaller bags can be used for a hoodie/head covering if need be ! It may look odd, but will keep you relatively dry !

Folks, for some excellent fishing, try Big Lake in the White Mountains of AZ as the fishing is great. Be sure to bring ALL possible necessary camping supplies and food because the Marina store price gouges worse than any place I HAVE EVER BEEN. Everything in the store is so outrageously overpriced!

bigelkaz1-need to check with the Springerville forest rangers. Apache Sitgreaves Forests, Crescent, Big lake, the store and campgrounds are closed or will soon be closed by the 29th of June..unsure of the date reopening. 👎Due to the possibility of fire in the area. Just being careful.

I am on the Mid East Coast, so am in tidal rivers targeting speckled trout, redfish and striped bass with light tackle and lures.

I try to generally cut down on how much I buy and use. I don’t normally use leaders. I just tie the lures directly to my line.

Am I really screwing up?

Hey bud, by simply learning the "Surgeons Uni knot" tying the main line to a lighter lb. leader, can adjust the leader quickly to changing conditions in no time, my opinion produces more fish in the pan.

My Grandfather always preached setting drag of your reel at 30% of the weight of your line.
So in your example of using 14 lb line setting your drag on reel is only 4.7 lbs well under the reels max of 12 lbs of available drag.
Great question.

The other thing to check is if you put the line on backwards. Yup, that happens and causes the line to come off the the reel when the bale is open )like you noticed) causing back-lash and bad casts. When putting line on the reel, make sure the spool is turning the same way as the reel take-up. Will solve a lot of problems!

True That!!👍

Remember to always replace the line that comes with any new Reel for best performance!!💥
Reel Manufacturers use very cheap ol' fish'n line
