This guy caught this fish and swore it was a pompano. I totally disagreed, but I've exhausted my ID resources. Caught off the beach SW FL gulf coast. PLEASE DON'T GUESS. Tell me the name and I'll pull up the pic. I'm hoping to prove the guy was mistaken. Looks like a Jack to me, but I couldn't ID it with a pic.

Live shrimp, sand fleas, squid and rapala lures work well talk to other fishermen as well, I grew up in Sarasota 1960s to 1974 loved fishing Sarasota bay and surrounding areas best of luck recommend using 20lb fishing line and fish tide changes

Where to catch speck in Hillsborough County Tampa area? I want to catch some without having to drive across the state.

Tampa bay is loaded with speckled trout wading, kayak or boat you can find them look for flats and go crazy with live shrimp, only fished tampa bay a few times but grew up in Sarasota Florida and fished the bays there, you will also get red fish, snook, grouper, mackerel, flounder and more but fishing flats on tide changes can be lots of fun be careful of sunburn lol also night fishing is a blast with good lighting ie LEDs

So, 24 years old, I grew up in back water West Virgina fishing the rivers: trout, Bass, hybrid, catfish, those works. I left and joined the army, went around a bit, and now that Im out I've settled here on Florida's gulf coast, Ive picked up a new rod and have been hitting the water.

SO I have no idea what im catching out here, what to use outside of a 1-1/0 and shrimp, nothing about tides really, and I just feel really ill prepared in general. Im trying to find some kind of reference materials like books, apps, forum pages, anything. 🤝

Tide charts are readily available, put app on phone, watch barometer if barometer is making changes that can affect fishing check out solar lunar charts Google that find app put on phone, talk to other fishermen they can be very informative get out and fish, learn, relax, finally always rinse gear with fresh water and maintain your gear, salt water is hard on reels and gear....have fun get out and hang on to rod lol, I grew up in Sarasota Florida did alot of fishing, now live in Wisconsin and still learning fresh water even though I've lived here now for 40 years I still miss fishing gulf coast....

Recommend hand picked live shrimp and fishing on tide changes, spoons work well as do doa artificial baits, experiment and talk to locals, also fiddler crabs and sand fleas work well on beach fishing and hang on to your rod....

I have a homemade fish caller and it works well, go to edge of river, lake, pond wherever you fish then cup your hands around your mouth, then softly say, Here Fish, Here fish. Repeat as necessary and good luck!!!

Braid suffers abrasion is my guess, I use 20lb braid and pretty reliable for most part guess depends on structure being, salt water fishing with braid and dealing with sand, shell, barnacles is a challenge but stripping off 20 feet might help since you can spoil more on, fished salt water before concept of braid, now fish strictly fresh water in Wisconsin and Michigan only get to Florida once every couple of years but do enjoy saltwater fishing, good luck!!!

Aside from disassembling the reel, cleaning and lubricating I think for 7.50 your working reel is a good deal even if it is an entry type reel for beginning Fishman... yippee for yardsales
