I use an adjustable speed Dremel tool with a metal cutting disk to cut the worst off. Then use it with metal cutting bits to smooth it. One bit is coarse cut and tapered and one is smoother cut and straight like a round file. Also wear leather gloves when coarse cutting with the disk. If it is a large piece with large jagged edges I will use an angel grinder with a metal cutting wheel to start then go to the Dremel tool. Also, have used a jigsaw with metal cutting blade for starting with very jagged AL.

If that gave you too much fight be sure you are not using high speed retrieve reel

Yes, they are good slow rolled for flounder and large single spinners with grubs on are good for reds.

I would not get the higher speed retrieve on a 2500 You will find it harder to retrieve with a fish of any size. I have 4 4000's and a 5000 but the only ones i use for bass or redfish are 2500 size or the very old 3300 by penn which is a 2500 size spool. I gave 2 newer reels with higher ratios to my son-in-law. But if I was a person who like to use buzz baits I would have a least 1 high speed reel. I mostly fish plastics or small spinner baits or live bait I fish for reds, flounder, trout and bass. Also, I always take one bait cast with me unless I am kayaking. I enjoy the slower retrieve when fighting fish as it gives me better control with my old hands .

Also, I might add that the cost of equipment you like will not be much compared to boats, fuel, launch fees and etc. Also, don't just buy because expensive as that may not be what fits your likes. My favorite is an old shimano glass 2 piece med lite that I got 30 years ago for 20 dollars on sale and bought a second one later because it fits my likes. Think of handle type, handle length, rod length, rod action, how your reels will feel on the rod, types of eyes, and what using it for more than cost. My most expensive rod was a gift from daughter and it is dusty and hangs on wall because I do not like long handles.

Think out what you fish for and what you use for bait or plugs etc Then slowly and carefully get additional rods. I have about 20 plus that I have bought over the years and find that when I impulse buy on great sales I seldom like or use them much. I have about 4 SW and 4 fresh water favorites that get used. These are usually the ones I carefully chose. 4 are bait cast and 4 are spinning. I usually take 2 of one type and 1 of other when I go. I always have a spinning in case of heavy wind.
