I owned a few boats over the years. A 21’ Bayliner with a 150 hp OB Merc, a 12’ Gregor with a 9.5 hp Merc, a river canoe, a lake canoe (both Old Timer) and an 19’ Lund with a 40 hp Honda (small engine for running the Kenai River). I also fished from shore and fished with charter boats. No boat here in Costa Rica but I continue to use charters as well as fish from the shore.

The coastal redwoods are the tallest. The giant sequoias are the largest. They can be found in Sequoia National Park, also in California. And the oldest? Also a conifer, the bristlecone pine named Prometheus, is located in eastern Nevada.
Thought maybe you really like trees and would want to add the other two to your bucket list.

All good advice from all that have responded... nothing I can dispute.

I know there are other holders out there but likely I will stick with the PVC pipes that have served me well over the past 10 years. I guess you could say there is no sense in trying to fix what isn't broken.

I surf cast with 9’, 10’, and 12’ rods. When bait fishing I put my rods in a rod holder that has the rods standing nearly vertical which makes a bite very obvious. What size rod(s) would you be using with this rod holder?
I used something similar to that for ice fishing in Alaska but those rods were less than 3’ long.

Being a complete amateur...i would like to ask you guys something that may sound , well, amateurish....is there a way to help keep mullet on my hook? Using chunks ( cut up whole mullet myself into 2 inch pieces)....and seems like as soon as the surf hits them, they’re gone....i go thru 2 bags of mullet in a few hours sometimes.

You can try this along with the other suggestions.

People that don’t know how to use a knife waste meat.

Agreed. Technique is as important as a good knife.

The problem many people encounter when filleting is try to avoid any bones on the first pass of the knife. YouTube is a good place to view various techniques for a variety of fish. You will see that most often the rib bones remain on the fillet and then are removed later.
