Thank you Plumbob. I didn't think anyone would remember my several posts on kayaks I had before I got one. I never asked if you have been kayak fishing long but I may have some questions as far as technique and stuff to get for my kayak if it's ok to ask you. I don't want to bother you to much with stuff so you don't have to answer any of my questions if you don't want to. I am also open to suggestions from anyone who has a kayak and can offer me advice on fishing, electronics, pretty much anything they have or suggest I should do. Thank you all so much for all the support and congratulations I have received. I am really excited to get my new kayak out on the water and fish more than just banks or docks.

No Mickey. Actually it's an old aluminum boat trailer my father in law had just sitting behind his barn. I wanted to see if my kayak would fit on it and it fits perfectly! I have to do some restoration on the trailer but it works absolutely perfect for it and the best part is I didn't have to pay for the trailer. All I have to do is clean and paint it, add new lights and new tires. So basically it's only going to cost me mabey 150$ to fix.

After months and months of research and planning and saving. I am very proud to say that I finally got my angler kayak! I ended up with a Field and stream shadow caster. I. Extremely excited to get it out on the water and start fishing with it. I have also joined a kayak fishing league here in Ohio so things are going to get extremely fun this coming year!

I have gotten lucky here a few times fishing for walleye in Erie in Cleveland. I am not sure around the Toledo area near where I am from but they are biting. The walleye run is starting very soon so I am sure it will get much better then but you may have some luck getting a few right now. Good Luck!

I have seen several comments on this subject and I have to agree with the people who say to purchase a kayak instead. A boat may get you places faster but a kayak has a lot of advantages that a boat can't do. A kayak is quiet and won't spook the fish near as much. There is almost zero maintenance that needs done to a kayak. I believe a kayak is easier to personalize, you can add things to it like a trolling motor, fish finder ,extra rod holders, lighting. I have even seen people customize trailers to fit their kayak on that will hold everything they want to take with them. I ( with in the last year) asked this forum what would be better to purchase between a kayak and a boat and I am proud to say that I am just waiting for them to deliver my first kayak. I debated for months on a Ranger bass boat for 56,000$ but did my research and realized that yes boats are much more fun, a kayak serves all the same function with a huge, huge ,HUGE financial difference. Really the only difference is a kayak doesn't have a live well and pending what kind you get you have to do a little more work to get to a fishing spot. But this is all just my opinion. I wish you luck one whatever decision you make.

Have you ever though about doing a monthly mail order for lures? Like MTB or Karl's Bait and tackle? I still go out to stores but I started getting boxes in the mail and it's so nice! I decided to go with 6th sence box and I have to say I honestly fell in love with the 6th sence brand. Plus it's always exciting to see what you are going to receive in the mail. They are reasonably priced and it saves on the struggle of finding time to get to the store and compare this lure to that one. It's just something to think about.

Thank you guys so much for the terrific ideas so far! One of my favorite things about this forum is the fact that most of us are complete strangers to one another but because we all share a love of fishing, we gladly help out each other. Weather it's advise on equipment, or technique, of how to get a club started for the youth of their community. We help out as best we can. I just wanted to tell you all how much I appreciate your advice on..well really anything I ever have a question about. Thank you.

These are all great ideas!

Phil - thank you for the encouragement and I will definitely look on the packaging of some of my lures to see if I can get contact info.

GLA- I didn't know bass pro shop would possibly offer something like that and will most definitely look into it further ( even if it's for manpower or teaching)

BILLBYRD1- I love that idea! The only problem is our local newspaper is going out of business and I don't know who is going to take over the new online news stuff but I will definitely have to contact them.

Thank you all so much for the start, I just want the kids to enjoy the experience we all do when we get out to our favorite honey holes and catch fish. Mabey even show one of them that yes tv and video games are fun, but they don't give you the same excitement as fighting to land that 5 LB bass or whatever it is at the end of the hook.

Hey all! I am in need of some wisdom. I live in a small town in Ohio and just got the town to approve my idea to start a local fishing club for youth and teens. I want to encourage them to put down the controller's and screens and get outside and fish. I have a pretty good group of youth on board so far with about 30 kids. The problem I am running into the lack of tackle and rods these future anglers will need to enjoy their experience. I have already looked into online garage sales an my nearest mom and pop tackle shop is a bass pro shop and hour drive from my house. The town likes my idea but won't provide any funding for me to even buy the basics. Any ideas on how to get some lures, baits and rods so that everyone can enjoy their time out on the water? Any idea you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would agree with the garage sales or go to Walmart. The most your going spend on a combo at Walmart is 90$ but on average you can get decent combos for Les than $50. As far as baits and lures go. You should look into mystery tackle box or one of the many monthly subscription boxes. They run anywhere from $20-$50 and send tackle right to your house once a month. You can cancel your subscription anytime. It's a great way to build up your tackle selection and not go to a store and spend $100 dollars or more on lures and plastics.

I personally prefer a baitcaster but I still use spinners as well. If it's speed your looking for and pending on you budget I suggest Lew's speed spool. They are relatively easy on the wallet and preform like a dream. Lew's also makes spinners that are equally in quality and performance and also friendly on the wallet ( again pending on your budget).

Hobbies are garbage, Walmart sells better ones....just kidding LOL. Congratulations on your recent deposit!. I am looking to get my first fishing kayak in the spring. It looks like it is so much fun. You will have to post pictures of your journey and how it looks on the water when you get it out! Congrats and good luck!

If you have never used a baitcaster my advice is this... Ask a friend (if you know any that has a baitcaster or two) if you can borrow one to practice with them. I happen to have a buddy who had several he never used and gave me one to practice with. Then you can compare the two different types side by side and see if you like one more than the other. I recently started using a baitcaster this year and I am absolutely hooked on them( no pun intended). But I also enjoy taking out my spinner and throwing it as well so I have options and preferences on different baits for both combos. Good luck and I hope you figure everything out.
