Not me, but I have heard a local charter boat baptain out of Dauphin island, Al always say watermelons and pregnent women were not allowed on his boats, EVER. They are pure bad luck.

After all, it is "Fall" just like you said. But, looks like you are "Springing" back. Nice fish!

They usually are just a nuisance. I had to beat on the boat with my paddle before this little dude would leave me alone. This was took in Point La Hache, LA. 2022. The fish tend to quit biting when they hang out.

Don't think I ever seen one of those before. Is it white flakey meat on the inside?

It is white and firm. Other folks call them white perch or crappie. Those had been on ice overnight and lost thier pretty colors.

I did it when I was younger and it is a lot fun. Opening day was always a big deal on the brownies around mid June and the white shrimp fall out this time of year with the cold fronts. We used a 16' Brunson net (super 16) made in Foley. I lost a good friend to srhimping, he got his net hung up and drowned trying to get it unhung. The way the current was and wind he capsized his boat 18' with a 90 hp. Just havent been since. It's much cheaper to buy them 21-25's off the boat for $3 lb when the whites are running. If you decide to go, take someone with you, know the bottom like a roadmap. My friend was alone, had a life jacket on, but got hung in the ropes and pulled under.

Sounds like a deep project. If the transom rotted out most likely the main stringers are rotten as well. Before you decide to purchase it get naked, go out in the freezing cold get your wife/partner to squirt you with a garden hose, beat you with a boat paddle and then you will know what you are getting into. Past experience with a Formula.

I have been going to sea and working on ships for the last 40 years. That captain had the vessels safety and your best interests in mind. Had he changed course, he may have grounded. Had he slowed down he would have sucked you into his ship or sunk you. Instead he stayed at full ahead and pushed you away from his ship. Looking at the load lines he had about 35 feet of draft. Here's is a good example. I was on a super tanked once and we had to change course before I was ready because there was a radar target 10 miles away, it took 12 miles to slow down and stop. That ship was loaded and drawing 90 feet of draft. Every course change is logged and the exact GMT noted when changing direction for any reason. Same thing goes for slowing down and speeding up. A lot of sailboaters thing they have the right of way over a ship, They Don't.

Yea really, imagine someone thinking they can anchor in active shipping lanes. The nerve of some people.

Big M.... here on the Stage we 100% only support and advocate legal fishing techniques and harvesting. Is there a minimum size limit for Bass in AL?

Well, since you ask. NO. I don't keep dink bass anyway, but I will keep one in the 10-12" range if he is fat and healthy. Do you really think I would be stupid enough to post illegal activity online to a bunch of nosy well wishers. We have so many bass here you can keep 10 black or spotted bass per day, 2 walleye, 5 sauger, 15 yellow bass, 15 white bass, 15 stiped or hybrids, 30 sacalait, 50 bream, no limit on yellow perch, or catfish. THAT IS PER DAY. There are size limits on a few of the state lakes. They told us to quit using dynamite and telephones in the 30's. Any more rules you want to know about?

I love the dinks, they taste better and here in the south they don't haven't had time to absorb as much mercury in them as the larger fish. If you position them just right amonst the others in the photos, you really don't see them. your eyes immediatly go to the larger ones in the photo. I had an uncle in law that showed me how to cook a 2-3 inch bream so crispy you can eat the bones. If you can find my last post you will see sone dinks hidden in there.

Thats the one top left in the second picture. Firmer than white trout and alot better tasting. To me the Black Drum
will be the best eating out of all of them, bass second.
