After failing on 5 occasions this fall, I finally got one on my new kayak. It was only 25 inches, thank God for the bonus tag I got. 😁

Nice catching!! 25 inches is not a bad fish but I know back East they get really big!

Nice bonus linesider from the β€˜yak ronmoll! Glad you’re able to get a kayak fishing trip in during the milder weather before December. How was the wind?

Good gone ron. Did he give you a little ride on the reel in? Water looks slightly choppy, but atleast you got out there,

Yup, here in northern California, that's close to bragging size. Well done on the kayak catch.

I hate you! Not really, just jealous, that's a nice catch. All of the ones I catch are 1 inch short, for years. LOL Looks like real good eating. When they say 19 inches, mine are 18. when 18 they are 17. LOL

Congrats on losing your virginity! Nice striper!

If you don't already have one, you may want to consider picking up a small drogue/sea-anchor/drift-anchor.

Not only would it come in quite handy when you hook onto the BIG one, but can be a real life-saver when fishing in windy conditions (keeps the kayak drifting in the current with you instead of blowing away).

They're also nice to have just for drift fishing (or anytime you want to move with the current) or taking a break from paddling/peddling.

I got mine (18" DFA-18 $20) from Bass Pro and have it set up to auto- deploy (small velcro tab stuck to the back of my PFD or belt loop tab) in case I end up in the water. Personally I would rather be in the water with no PFD and the drogue deployed than vice versa.

Yes, I know it's the wrong Coast but they have a lot of good info on kayak fishing as well as safety tips.

In NJ that's not a legal fish unless you have a bonus tag that allows 1 over 24 inches, less than 28.

I thought they had to be 28” to keep in Jersey.

Yes 28 to 38 inches. Unless you apply and receive a bonus tag. Then you can keep one from 24 to 28 inches. You must affix the tag immediately and report it within 24 hours. You can see the blue metal tag in its mouth.

Congratulations on that striper from your kayak! Catching fish while seated in a kayak is tremendous fun, along with some good exercise too! Glad that your patience paid off!
