Yes as I said, Hopyard Farm boat ramp. Deep holes up current from logs and fallen trees. Cut bait.

Check the Maryland and Potomac River Fisheries Commission website for regs...one of the shad species is protected. Don't remember if it's Hickory or American.

Hey Freddy
Burke Lake in Fairfax county used to rent rowboats a loooong time ago but I don't know about now. Was back in the mid 70's last I fished there. Good crappie fishing as I recall.
The Rappahannock has some monster blue cats, but you need a boat to get to em. Even a kayak will do. Check Tractor Supply for those. Also some snakehead action from what I hear. We launch out of Hopyard boat ramp. We fish for eating size blues and channels. There are bass, but I don't fool with em.
Tight lines!

I used to fish Burke lake back in the early 70's for crappie. Used silverside minnows, basically 2 eyes and a wiggle in size. But over the brush piles we caught quite a few nice bass too. Always a blast on ultralight tackle!
Back then there were no fish finders, so once you located the fish you just lined up shore points to find it again. Never failed. I remember seeing some 5 lb largemouth coming out of there.

I actually mounted a fixed transducer Garmin unit on my 16 foot aluminum, and carry a deep cycle battery to run it.
Works GREAT

We have a lot of bow fishing guys that hunt them at night on the Rappahannock above Port Royal. Lots of shallow creeks and bank edges.
Have never fished for them because I have no idea how to, except for being told they like topwater baits.

Nice channel!
I plan on fishing that area and the Rap down to the bay this year. Waiting to see when the perch move in, which should be very soon

Every one I ever tried was just too fishy. My dad smoked some once long ago. It was pretty good with cold beer, sharp cheese and football.
Some guys back in the early 70's went out of Chincoteague early one morning and headed for Winter Quarters shoal. Came back with a boatload of BIG blues. Barely room to walk on the deck!

Folks like what they like. Blues are a summer fish for the most part. But if you check some of the charter captains around the bay or Virginia Beach you may get some good info. Good luck man!

Used to catch blues in the Potomac during the summer, but that was a long time ago. Haven't caught a blue in years.
Now, as far as eating, I wouldn't beat my dog with a bluefish. But pound for pound they are a helluva fight!

I generally troll a $20 for strippers...JK😆
Jigs with a sassy shad, a #7 spoon, or a combo high/low rig. Also an umbrella rig with sassy shad can be productive. Stripers can be fussy, so best chat it up at local bait shops. Better yet, the best way to learn is a half day charter with one of the many captains from a port near you.
Tight lines and following seas!

Sho nuff. The Potomac hasn't been too good the last few years, but I hear the bay is pretty good.

I blow through there quite a bit. I'm laid up now, but I'll ping you when I'm back on my feet
