I fished the piers around Venice & Englewood last winter/spring and had good luck.

Hey KG, Have you checked out Deeper Sonar? They are designed as a portable and use a cell phone/iPad for screen The have a couple models ranging from around $100 to $300. I have used one bank fishing in up state NY.

I fish piers in southwest Florida. I wear a UPF 50 Long Sleeve Fishing Shirt and shorts most of the time. I go to long pants and add layer the top as needed. Oh yah, a hat and sunscreen a must. Good luck
