Florida in February—East or West coast???

I have an opportunity to surf cast either in the Vero Beach (east) or Venice Beach (west) coast in early February. Bringing new 12ft rod and Seigler conventional reel that will get distance if needed. Any suggestions where the best action might be? Species?

Thanks in advance.

Either location is great for fishing. Venice may be a little warmer.

I will sy that Piney Point And the Redtide have DESTROYED the fishing on the WEST Coast of Florida. Other than maybe the Keys or the Panhandle there are no fish ALIVE. At last total 171,000 TONS repeat TONS of fish have collected from the West Coast. Good Luck

The Redtide and Piney Point have destroyed the fishing in the Gulf. Let count 171,000 TONS repeat TONS of fish have collected. Good Luck

I think you'll have some fun on either. I have heard of some people swear by the east being the best for surf fishing, but you know how it is,what's great for one may not really be so for another person. Myself? I would say the Gulf is better depending on the spot you try. Always keep up on the weather and the tides though.
Good luck on wherever you choose to go and keep us posted on the outcome. Tight lines,Buddy!

I fished the piers around Venice & Englewood last winter/spring and had good luck.

If the weather makes a difference I think you'll have a nicer time on the west coast. Going to Punta Gorda, which is near Venice, over Christmas. Hoping for pool weather. Not sure you'd find that on the east coast.

2 words....RED TIDE...might be ok with cooler weather....but it has decimated fishing north and south of Tampa....particularly south....

Red Tide is a big problem. But it moves around and hopefully you can fish around it. Too bad for the manatees dying out there.

Red Tide season usually August thru Nov so you should be ok in Feb, but check reports. Gulf is usually warmer than east coast. Both coasts have great fishing, you'll have a good time on either coast. Get updated on tides, what's running and what to use for that particular area.
