❤️They call us ”The Elderly”❤️

We were born in the 40-50-60’s.
We grew up in the 50-60-70's.
We studied in the 60-70-80's.
We were dating in the 70-80-90's.
We got married and discovered the world in the 70-80-90's.

We venture into the 80-90’s.
We stabilize in the 2000’s.
We got wiser in the 2010’s.
And we are going firmly through and beyond 2020.

Turns out we've lived through EIGHT different decades...
TWO different centuries...
TWO different millennia...
We have gone from the telephone with an operator for long-distance calls to video calls to anywhere in the world.

We have gone from slides to YouTube, from vinyl records to online music, from handwritten letters to email and Whats App.
From live matches on the radio, to black and white TV, colour TV and then to 3D HD TV.
We went to the Video store and now we watch Netflix.

We got to know the first computers, punch cards, floppy disks and now we have gigabytes and megabytes on our smartphones.
We wore shorts throughout our childhood and then long trousers, Oxfords, flares, shell suits & blue jeans.

We dodged infantile paralysis, meningitis, polio, tuberculosis, swine flu and now C****-**.
We rode skates, tricycles, bicycles, mopeds, petrol or diesel cars and now we drive hybrids or electric.
Yes, we've been through a lot but what a great life we've had!

They could describe us as “xennials”; people who were born in that world of the fifties, who had an analog childhood and a digital adulthood.
We've kind of “Seen-It-All”!
Our generation has literally lived through and witnessed more than any other in every dimension of life.

It is our generation that has literally adapted to “CHANGE”.
A big round of applause to all the members of a very special generation, which will be UNIQUE.

Two old guys, Rick 80 and Bill 87, were sitting on a park bench one morning

The 87-year-old had just finished his morning jog and wasn’t even short of breath.

The 80-year-old was amazed at the guy’s stamina and asked him what he did to have so much energy.

The 87-year-old said, “Well, I eat rye bread every day. It keeps your energy level high and you’ll have great stamina with the ladies.”

So, on the way home the 80-year-old stopped at the bakery.

As he was looking around, the saleslady asked if he needed any help. He said, “Do you have any rye bread?”

She said, “Yes, there’s a whole shelf of it. Would you like some?”

He said, “I want five loaves.”

She said, “My goodness, five loaves! By the time you get to the 3rd loaf, it’ll be hard.”

He replied, “I can’t believe everybody knows about this stuff but me.”

It was sometime in the early to mid-1960s, and we were living in McAllen, Texas. There was a neighbor who had purchased a new VW beetle. It wasn’t long before he began bragging on his VW's superior gas mileage. It got to be so long and strong that other friends began to tire of his monopoly of conversations.

They finally decided to play a trick on their friend. At night they would sneak over and add a gallon, or half, to the Volkswagen. This had the effect of much higher miles per gallon. The owner would brag about this number until finally it got so high, he was silent because this was finally astronomical. No car could possibly get that high!

The owner of his new VW finally quit bragging about his mileage because of the high miles per gallon he was experiencing. Along about his time, his buddies began withdrawing gas from the Volkswagen. The miles per gallon dropped which causes some concern and caused the owner to take the vehicle back to the dealer for a diagnosis of his problem.

I do not know if his buddies ever told the VW owner what they had done for fun. Did you know that this vehicle was developed and built with the blessing of Adolf Hitler, who intended that every German family own one. They were encouraged to make a down payment toward buying their own V.W. but few ever received one.

I owned a new dark green VW when I was living in New York. When we had snow and other cars could not negotiate hills, my bug would just zip right up and never get stuck. I owned it for a year and sold it for what I had paid. Not a bad deal. Just Sayin…RJS
