Sandusky River Walleye run is probably the best choice of any. I fished that run for over 40 years and there is a two week window. I was going to give you the bait shop number I always used however, I called there and phone is disconnected. Probably closed down. Google may help you find a bait shop. I always fished north of the downtown Fremont bridge. If you can catch the run in the first day or two you might be able to fish. So many people. It’s literally elbow to elbow if you don’t find out when the first fish are caught. After a day or two, it’s terrible. Be sure you have you fishing license and chest waders. I would highly recommend wearing wrap around saftey glasses. Every year people are rushed to the ER with hooks in their eyes arms and head. Be careful if you do fish in the big crowds. People now a days have no common sense nor do they care for their fellow fisherman. There are some remote spots but they are difficult to get to and far and few between. If you go too far north there will be so many small boats you have no water to cast into. Best bet is determine the run very early.

What a great idea. A power Bimini! I can just imagine how much that helps you.
On another note: thank you for offering yourself for the freedom we enjoy in this great country! I cannot tell you how much respect and gratitude I have for you. From the bottom of my 73 year old heart sir, thank you for all you did. God bless you! Enjoy that pontoon and power Bimini.
Went from 5 grandkids to 9 grandkids. More family members wanted to go on the boat. And became serious about fishing so I changed models from cruising to 4 point fishing models. I also noticed a big difference in the quality and fit and finish between inexpensive pontoons and higher quality pontoons. This will be my last one as I have learned a lot about what wears out and where quality needs to be at a higher level. Even us old folks can learn with a little experience. 😁
Papaw Sam,
Best move you have ever made. I am fixing to buy my 3rd. Great way to fish especially with the grandkids and the Mrs. it’s like fishing from your living room. Sure beats sitting on a boat with bench seats. Best of luck to you and you enjoy that pontooner.
Did you buy it from Cabelas? They have great service and will take good care of you and your boat.
God Bless you.
Clyde,
Where are you planning to depart from on Lake Erie? Toledo, Port Clinton, Vermillion, Huron, Ruggles Beach, Avon, Cleveland, Wildwood, Mentor, Ashtabula. There are qualified Guides at all these locations. Plenty of Walleye this coming season. Be prepared for possible sticker shock on Charter fees. Fishing tactics depend on time of year and water temperature at each of the mentioned locations. Also, each Captain has their favorite way to land limit catches.
If you zero in on where you want to fish along the North Coast, let me know. I would be glad to make recommendations if you need them.
Lots of experts will provide you answers here.
That’s good info thanks. Both those lakes are just 45 min. South of where I live.
Lake Erie is hot spot and on fire for fishing. Entire coast from Toledo to Ashtabula.
I lived in Frenchtown a number of years ago. Fished out of Brest Bay Marina. we had good success for walleye just south and east of the mouth of the Detroit River. Thats a little north of Fermi. This was a good spot from spring right thru late fall. We always caught a few and at times limited out. Trolling Hot-N-Tot's using a 3 way swivel or in line weights worked. Drifting and casting weight forward spinners with crawlers worked. Just plain drifting with worm harnesses worked. We always kept it simple. Another spot is at the mouth of the River Raisin, just south of Brest Bay. This also was a good spot for nice size perch, live minnows or jigs with rubber minnows. Watch your fish finder and be sure to fish just a bit above the big schools you see. Finally, we would make the run out to the shipping channel for deeper water and at times went out to West Sister Is. Watch for the packs of boats out there and charter boats then search with you fish finder until you see some fish. really a nice area to fish and lots of options and places to go. You can call Brest Bay Marina and ask about where the fish are. They use to be helpful however, I did dock my boat there. Best of luck to you I hope you enjoy your time on the water. Its a very nice area!
Portage Lakes is sooooo busy and soooooo much boat traffic it’s nearly useless to fish. However, you can catch all the 3 to 4 inch bluegills you want. Used to be great crappie fishing at Turkeyfoot Lake. Tried is last spring and the weeds and boat traffic were horrible. These Portage lakes have turned into Joy ride Lakes. Kinda disappointing for fisherman buy for joy riders it’s great. 😞😞😞
Typically, the trout clubs will stock the trout. They need a cold water creek or river and then stock the trout for their membership. Good luck.
my suggestion would be to search out your local Chapter of trout unlimited. Additionally, I have helped our TU chapter here in Ohio participate in local sportsman shows and boat shows. Any of those typically have short introductory classes for kids and beginners of all ages. Also, check to see if there are some private trout clubs in your area join up for a year and get to meet some members and fellow fly fishers. That is always fun and very educational. 10 years ago I did exactly that and to this day I am still e member and love the club and catching trout in their streams. finally, Fly shops are the best resource. Try to schedule a 4 hour fly fishing guide to take you out fishing, even if you have to drive a couple hours it will be well worth the time and money. Good luck to you 007 and enjoy every minute of your fly fishing learning experience.
Way to go Ben!! Taking that initiative to talk with that Pastor was divine intervention. Really happy for you and hope you can mend things up with your mom. Life will be so much better and you will feel a certain "relief" in life. God bless you Ben and keep looking up as life goes on.
