Just purchased my first fishing pontoon, 2023 suntracker bass buggy 18dlx with 60hp merc. Any horror stiry “dont do’s” or great “must do’s”. Retirement this fall and looking for many hours of enjoyment for the mrs and the geandkids
Congrats on both (your purchase and your retirement)!
Get yourself a long handled landing net and enjoy the time fishing!

Howdy neighbor I'm in Lafayette
Congratulations on getting a pontoon it will make many memories and for your retirement you will not have a reason to set around I think you'll really enjoy your new boat. Do you have a lake to keep it on
Two counties north has 101 lakes. Grew up on one of them. Plenty of water around

Cool, I work security at the Purdue sports events, and tell all the students that I can. I'm a really cool old guy and want them to call me by my stage name. I'm also a comedy magician. Ask them if they've meet Mud Head yet?

Any do and dont's?
Safety....Safety SAFETY. Captain is responsible for the operation and everyone else's safety onboard. Have FUN. Congratulations. Captain's License may be a requirement in your State etc. It is mainly Safety and Laws that it covers.
Retirement and a Pontoon Boat. Sounds like pure BLISS.
Congrats on the purchase. I take delivery of my first fishing boat next week.

hey paps.bought the bass buggy i6 in 2020. came with merc 20 but upgraded to 50hp [max]. one thing 2 make sure of is steering; ck the shaft thru the motor [put a grease gun to it RITE away. mine locked up so bad i could NOT break it loose with a hand sledge] luv the boat. tops out just under 30 at 4400 rpm. if this is your first toon you gonna notice a big difference from a typical v hull boat. mine is pretty spartan guage wise/ prolly add some this year. ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations on the new toon Papaw.
Do not let anyone, especially kids ride on the front of the boat with their feet in the water. If they get their feet caught on something in the water they will be pulled off and the pontoons will channel them into the outboard. Just be safe and aware.
Have a similar setup, 2000, 20 ft Sweetwater w/70 Hp Evenrude 4 stroke. Take care of it and you’ll have years of enjoyment. Beware everyone thinks they know how to drive your boat, but actually they don’t and they won’t know your lake or where ever you take it. It’s these people that will damage your boat or cause injuries. If you don’t have a 4 stroke, consider a swap. Silence is golden when out in nature and you won’t hear the 4 stroke.
Thanks. Ive spent a lot of time operating a pontoon but never owned one. Youre right about the four stroke, i bought a crestliner 1609 storm with a 25 merc 4stroke. Awesomely quiet motor
