I have the Pflueger President matched up with two of my St Croix’s
That’s an amazing reel for the money!

I have a St Croix Avid Series in a 6’ ultralight
I jig a 1/16 oz with 4lb flourocarbon
For mostly crappies
I highly recommend this!

How long would you expect one to learn to fish with mono before switching to braid? Why not just learn to fish with braid from the jump?

Why would you WANT to use braid?

Forget all of the problems with mono and try fluorocarbon
I have been using it exclusively for a few years now and I’ll never go back to monofilament

Anyone ever use the “Color C Lector”
It’s supposed to tell you the optimum color of lure to use based on all the crap known to the fishing gods
I’ll sell you mine!

I personally use a 6lb test fluorocarbon
I have performed accurate tensile pull tests to test my knot strengths using a digital scale
6lb fluorocarbon usually breaks at about 8.5 lbs pull
So I’m assuming an 8lb would be over 10 lb

For what it’s worth!

Could be for something to do. I just de-winterized mine and can’t go fishing anywhere “yet”. Maybe I should just winterize it again and then they would open it up - good reverse psychology!

Got that right!

I see your posts every day and have to wonder what you are holding up on your picture there

I would have to wonder why we want to winterize this time of year

Out of all the setups I use regularly, only one is a casting rod. The rest are all spinning rods. All the pros and most of the people I see online have the exact opposite arsenal. I like spinning reels because they don't backlash, I can lend them to people who don't have baitcaster experience, I can throw lighter weights easier, and I can get a good spinning reel for less than what I pay for an equally good baitcaster. (With that said I have a Daiwa Fuego CT on a 13 Fate Black rod and I love using it as much as my spinning setups, I just don't have an entire lineup to match)

I don't struggle to catch fish (at least not that I know of) or have fun fishing using spinning gear, but I can't help feel like I'm doing it wrong. Is only using spinning gear wrong? Do baitcasters make that big of a difference?

How many of you people out there can say that they have fished with a Mooching Rod and Reel?

That’s fun
Especially with a big salmon on the run
