Is 8lb fluoro too light?

So I'm getting a new medium spinning combo for finesse plastics; senkos, shakey heads etc. I plan to fish these from weightless rigged up to 1/4 Oz shakey head. Is an 8lb leader too light for that setup or should I move up to 10lb test. Thanks

I second this. My finesse rods are tied up with either straight 6lb flouro or 10-15lb braid to 6lb flouro for Ned rigs, shakeyheads, and finesse jigs.

8lb Fluro isn't too light and should work well for a finesse spinning combo if your reel is sized appropriately. Me personally, I use 15lb braid to an 8 or 6 lb fluoro leader to avoid line twist and increase casting distance.

If you’re using an “invisible” line (that’s the benefit of fluoro), why not go heavier and not worry about line strength?

You lose action with heavier line.

You’ll catch more fish. If you start breaking off too many big fish change up.

Depends on where you are fishing it. In open clear water, sure. In cover or grass edges I'd go heavier. You aren't pulling an 8lb bass out of heavy cover, grass, or edges of lily pads successfully with an 8lb leader. I used to fish 10lb leader on my c-rigs but got broken off too many times. Now fish 12lb leader. Don't think it's effected the bite any as the lakes where I live aren't that clear. Also braid doesn't stretch so be careful on the hook set with a light leader or you'll break off at the hook. With braid you're going to feel the bottom just fine regardless.

I personally use a 6lb test fluorocarbon
I have performed accurate tensile pull tests to test my knot strengths using a digital scale
6lb fluorocarbon usually breaks at about 8.5 lbs pull
So I’m assuming an 8lb would be over 10 lb

For what it’s worth!
