Better for all to eat snakehead roe than the almost and will be endangered roe of paddlefish and native sturgeon.

The baby snakeheads at 3 inches were bright red. At about5 inches they turn a brown color for life. And start eating all their tank mates. Adults from this species were not nearly as attaractive as the babies.

I used to sell them at a pet store. They grow rapidly and are voracious predators. One 1.5 foot snakehead jumped out of the tank and dried out for over 24 hours. We through him back in the tank, he sloughed off his dirty dried up skin, was a little groggy for a few hours and was good as new the next day.

Hi,
I’m interested in getting a guided trip for snakeheads and peacock bass in Florida?

Are they found in similar habitats?

Does anyone know a guide they could recommend to catch these species?

Yes. As soon as your hands washed, sandwich out, and drink in your lap!

Great pictures! And what a day to be a fishing! While carp aren’t my favorite to eat, fishing for them and catching can be quite a challenge. Nice job. River is beautiful.

One of the best ways to get a bite is to pour the coffee and get your snacks or dinner out, almost always right in the middle of the first swig or first taste the fish will start to bite like crazy.

Hi,
I don’t live there but visit several times a year in the area. One of my favorite places to see wildlife and fish is the Skyway Fishing Bridge State Park. It was an old bridge that was broken in half so the state made it into a place to fish. It’s a great place to learn about Florida Fishing as you can watch others and pick up tips and ideas from them. Lots of friendly folk there too. You do have to pay by the amount of people in your car but don’t need a fishing license. It’s included. And if the fish don’t bite lots of dolphins and pelicans to watch. Even a manatee swims by once in a while. I’ve only met one skunk on the bridge while fishing. 😎

Wow! After my own heart. That would be much better than fining them. A month of cleaning up the area they littered in. Make the fine so high that cleaning up would be the best deal.

When the fish don’t bite,
Clean up litter on the site.

How far is Tarpon Springs from Tampa Bay?

I fish there when on vacation to Tampa area. One of my favorite spots. In general: Spanish Mackerel school around the bridge and are fairly easy to catch on live bait and lures. Same for lady fish and pompano. The green baitfish are there by the millions and many use them as there preferred bait. I see many using shrimp as well. The mackerel seem to stop feeding at dusk.So keep that in mind when planning your trip. At night I fish for grouper and anything biting on bottom with live and cut bait. I’ve hooked several tarpon while there that were at least 3 foot plus long. Impossible to land without a boat.

I catch and release only so use a single hook on all lures with the barb flattened. It makes accidentally hiking gulls and pelicans as well as releasing the fish much easier. If they flip off as I start to bring them out of the water even better.
Unfortunately there are many there that keep everything they catch legal or otherwise. I noticed that the Florida Fish and Game were there in strength the last time I was there issuing tickets for illegal fish, speeding, alcohol, fishing with more than 3 rods, and staying overtime longer than the 24 hour pass allows without repurchase. 😎😎😎
Now if they’d issue tickets for trash that would be even better. It’s disgusting what “fisherman” that should care for nature leave all over the bridge even though trash cans and line disposal containers are there.

Yep. Mine breaks down into 3 pieces. But still each is 5 foot.

My dad bought me a 15 foot surf rod as kind of a joke. He didn’t believe I’d ever really be able to use it. But I soon leaned to cast 6-8 oz weights and baits further than my 11 and 12 foot poles. I’ve managed to catch a shark Panama City Beach and a bunch of 10-40 lb blue cats with it below KY Dam and on the Mississippi. Some fisherman have made some sarcastic remarks but once they saw how far I can cast it and the fish I’ve caught with it soon quit making fun!
