I live on a canal in Cape Coral. About a 55 minute slow ride to the river, and then 20 more minutes in the tidal Caloosahatchie River / ICW until the Gulf proper. Not always, but many times, I can't keep shrimp alive in the livewell. I am assuming it is probably water quality and temp. I have two ideas to try for next trip, but was looking for other suggestions as well. First thing is to throw in some frozen water bottles to reduce the temp. My second idea was to run an aerator in the livewell, and maybe try a second trip with the circulating pump off. Anyone got any other ideas?

That’s is exactly the problem is the canal water but we always put frozen qt bottles in the live well to chill the water run your bubble machine till you get into good water then run the live well my neighbor is a big trout fisherman he keeps his shrimp in a bait bucket on top of a block of ice last all day

I've often kept shrimp over night in my 5gal bait bucket with battery air with stone. Fiddler crabs live almost a week.

The key to keeping shrimp is to give them a place to hold on to so they don’t have to keep swimming put some wire mesh in your holding tank . I live on a canal and have made holding pens out of polypropylene mesh , the shrimp live for months during the cooler weather not sure about the hot weather.

Not rocket science just use a scale set at 1/3 the lb test of the weakest line , enough can go wrong without using a incorrect drag setting

Basically correct , not familiar with Star Rods , the basic rods I use are 20 -60 lb class , very thin profile and very lightweight and hi quality , primarily narrow spool with decent line capacity and hi pound smooth drags !
Rods are by EDGE rod company from Gary Loomis’s new rod company . These are medium power , semi parabolic taper !
To present jig properly y a slow pitch rods taper must allow jig to dance enticingly so
Rod weight approx. 6oz’s !

It’s amazing how a rod that size can Handel a fish like this AJ caught yesterday there a tough fish on my little stand up rig and those avet reels have 14 lbs drag on strike and 28 on full 2 speed thanks for the information I own two loomis spinning rods for inshore and there very nice

Slow pitch outfit is a lightweight rod with matching reel , non of the above make a true slow pitch jig outfit ! Just simple jigging , no big deal! Fish can be jigged anyway u prefer !

Star makes a acid wrap jigging rod not sure if this rod meets your criteria of a slow pitch rod and it was my understanding the reels should be narrow with a fast retrieve please correct me if I’m wrong by no means a expert on this subject

I fished Hull many times years ago when the flounder were in Quincy bay , pretty sure the bass fishing might still be good in the race , back in the day in April the cod fish would even come in that bay use to be great fishing a long time ago ask the local bait shop they should point you in the right direction

Have a open mind to new concepts, what you think the first time a guy deployed a spreader bar for tuna or a tube and worm for stripe bass like dragging a hunk of garden hose thru the water but deadly when used correctly wait and see or try for your self

I lived in Springhill, Fl back in the 90’s. Loved to troll for grouper in 40-60FT of water. Watch your depth finder for hard bottom and structure. We used stretch 30’s with braided line to get to the bottom.

It’s still good trolling for grouper
