I just bought my grail reel (avet sxj) and want to know what rod I should pair it with, I will be fishing at 9 mile reef (80 ft deep) and will be using jigs from 2 ounces to 8 ounces and I need a CHEAP rod, if anyone has recommendations or even a used rod lmk

Every time someone asks what kind of rod they should get, they get flooded with St croix, GLoomis, shimano..etc...recommendations, but cheap and effective seem to be ugly stix and i find Kastking to be good affordable rods....amazon has a good selection.

You have one of the best reels on the market and you wanna match it up with a cheap rod? I could never go that route

Nothing....some people can’t afford 200 dollar rods.

Slow pitch jigging is all about finess, but mostly about the reel.....some guys use 2-speed reels with strong low gears so that can get a big AJ, grouper, or Tuna up

Star makes a acid wrap jigging rod not sure if this rod meets your criteria of a slow pitch rod and it was my understanding the reels should be narrow with a fast retrieve please correct me if I’m wrong by no means a expert on this subject

Basically correct , not familiar with Star Rods , the basic rods I use are 20 -60 lb class , very thin profile and very lightweight and hi quality , primarily narrow spool with decent line capacity and hi pound smooth drags !
Rods are by EDGE rod company from Gary Loomis’s new rod company . These are medium power , semi parabolic taper !
To present jig properly y a slow pitch rods taper must allow jig to dance enticingly so
Rod weight approx. 6oz’s !
