I see people with big fat trolling reels that look like they have miles of line on it. Why is there so much? I can’t imagine you actually use or need that much line?

Hello,

Im new to fishing with lures and was wondering if anyone has any advice on how I should be rigging lighter spinners and how to get some more distance on the cast. Can you add sinkers for extra weight etc.

I'm running a light spinning reel with 10lb mainline.

Thanks in advanced

There's only one public lake near me, everything else seems to be private. When I go on Google Maps, I can see a lot of ponds and smaller bodies of water, but a lot of them are near houses so I assume they are private. Is there anyway to find out which ones are open to fishing?

How do you tell how much ice there is on a lake? And how much do you want to stand on (160lb)

I went from cabrewing, to kayaking and fishing, to kayak fishing exclusively.

Now I fish year round, even when I’m not catching I am just happy to be casting. I am fascinated by the ecology of creeks and rivers, the forage of smallmouth and the patterns and behavior of everything that lives in the streams around me.

I’m not sure if this is a dumb question, but I always have this thought about how all these fish end up in landlocked ponds, like golf course ponds having largemouth. Did someone back in the day throw a bag of baby largemouth out in every little pond that has ‘em?

I have been using spiderwire but it frays up and loses its durability pretty fast and it seems like I have to re tie my knots every few casts. I'm pretty new to using braid so idk if this is common or not

Is it common for the list/retail price of rods and reels to fluctuate up and down across multiple shops?

Specifically I'm talking about a new release, the new Pflueger Supreme, and the new Fenwick HMG. I had them both in my cart for a week or so, and was just waiting around until I could find some sort of deal, considering I don't really need them until springtime, but just noticed the list price for both has gone up. The Supreme was $110, and is now $120, and the HMG was $100, and is now $120. The prices have also increased at most other retailers.

I still have the old price available to me while they're in my cart, and am now considering just buying at those prices. Any advice?

Hi guys don't know the exact technical terms but looking for a 2500 spinning reel that has a solid force behind the bail arm. I do a lot of stray lining and I've noticed a difference in the aforementioned property between reels. Some "softer" reels if you do not snap the bail arm at the correct position of the line in the reel it has a tendency to not catch on the roller and flips back out usually leading to missed fish. Does anyone know what im talking about and have any reccos for reels with a "stronger" bail arm snap?

For me, I just really enjoy relaxing and looking at the fishes. I know that might sound weird but I think they’re just bizarre looking lol. Even the average bluegill looks pretty crazy to me

Curious why you guys like it?

Just getting into baitcasting. I prefer reeling my spinning set ups with my dominant (right) hand but I’ve never cared enough to switch the handles on my spinning gear (my son is left-handed so I have some spinning reels set up for him).

I find switching hands after casting a baitcaster a little awkward so I was thinking about getting a left-handed reel so I don’t have to switch.

Wondering how many of you baitcast fisherman reel with your dominant hand, other hand, or don’t care which one.

Thanks.

For those that keep what you catch. What's your favorite fillet knife? Thanks and happy New Year.

Does a crankbait specific rod (medium/moderate action or glass crank rod) still work well with single hook?

Or is a firmer action better for single hook lipped or lipless cranks?
