I’m not sure if this is a dumb question, but I always have this thought about how all these fish end up in landlocked ponds, like golf course ponds having largemouth. Did someone back in the day throw a bag of baby largemouth out in every little pond that has ‘em?

I've asked that question to my grandpa, who has built many ponds for local farmers and ranches around Oklahoma. He's gone now but he said, water bird's like duck's, geese and other animals transfer fish eggs from pond to pond, or other bodies of water. Flooding also can relocate fish and man releasing fish in his own pond caught from another source. Stocking fingerings by the agricultural department.

I've also always heard the eggs get on the water foul feet and end up in ponds or any body of water when they travel.

Will fertile eggs post-spawn, survive a passing through a duck’s digestive system?

According to what I have read from several sources, the answer is yes.

Are you sure that any bird can do that? I thought it was limited to storks! LOL

Can fertile eggs survive a trip through both ends of ducks and geese? According to this study it can happen:
