Which hand do you reel with?

Just getting into baitcasting. I prefer reeling my spinning set ups with my dominant (right) hand but I’ve never cared enough to switch the handles on my spinning gear (my son is left-handed so I have some spinning reels set up for him).

I find switching hands after casting a baitcaster a little awkward so I was thinking about getting a left-handed reel so I don’t have to switch.

Wondering how many of you baitcast fisherman reel with your dominant hand, other hand, or don’t care which one.

Thanks.

All of my trolling reels are right handed.. freespool, drag, crank all with the dominant hand.. spinning are all lefty... usually casting with the spinning setups, thus better cast and line control with the dominant hand.

I’m right handed but use left hand retrieves on both spinning and casting reels, I actually find it awkward to hold the rod in my left hand and crank with the right.

I also cast R reel L. My question is why does it matter? We are out there to relax and have fun. Not to conform to the"NORM". If it feels good, do it.

I too am right handed but use left hand reels. I find it easier to hold onto the rod with my right hand.

Not sure if there is any relation but I am also left eye dominate.

I cast with my right hand and reel with whatever the reel is capable of. My spinning reels are all left hand retrieve and some of my casting reels are as well. The fish have not complained so far.

I prefer to cast/ the right arm, reel with the left hand, even though I am "right handed"...

I grew up during the time when they tried to MAKE you right handed. When I got older I found myself shooting left handed, and probably would have been left handed all the way, but I must say, "I hate, hate mind you" (insert British accent there) reeling with my left hand. I switch all my spinning reels to right handed the minute I get them. Reeling with my left hand just does not feel right ( excuse the pun :-) ).

I was born left handed, play ball left handed but have right eye dominant so shoot right handed. Am albe to use either when I am building something, hammer in left or right hand as the need strikes me. Pretty much ambidextrius so use either hand depending on what reel I am using.

Funny you mentioned the MADE you right handed. When I started school I wrote left handed and was encouraged to always use my right. I ended up weighting right handed but could switch hit in baseball no problem and probably was a better hitter left but my power came right handed. Now I can't do much of anything left handed guess they worked that out of me.

Changing hands is second nature to me. I am ambidextrous.

I started out with a left hand bait caster, that was in the late 70s and they were hard to find and coast more than the right handed reels but I did not want to switch hands and yes I am right handed. My open face spinning has the handle on the left also it just feels right.🎣
