Ben, you just made my day. I didn’t have someone like you. No need to go into dad history, I suppose we all have some. I have spent many years now mentoring (men, young and old…..not on fishing, I still need that!) but on life in general. It’s amazing the difference we men and women can make in a younger persons life if we just watch and listen and don’t back down when the opportunity presents itself. Absolutely nothing replaces real time spent with someone. Mentoring isn’t always easy but much of the time “the mentor” is blessed more than “the bless-ie”
Holding you in high regard.

There is no correct way to do it. It's whatever you're comfortable with. Nobody's gonna be laughing at you. They would be if you turned you spinning reel upside down and put it on top of your rod. I'm sure the pros would tell you the same thing. Be comfortable with whatever you pick. I have a slx dc - pretty nice reel for the money.

Paul, you just gave the best advice and the one I took home with me. I hadn’t fished in 40 years and Paul took the time to hit the American River with me.
Me asking questions about “do I use a leader, a swivel, slider sinker or……” you get the idea. Paul gave some great advice as to those smaller tips and tricks but….. the best advice was “go out and try different stuff. There is no one hard and fast rule and no one is going to laugh at you”. Might have been my biggest fear.
Thanks Spirit!

I’m going to scope out Chili Bar to Coloma for access. That will be where the river narrows and above the area where the rafters stage. Need good access though.
Stay tuned!

Well, we did it and made it back alive! I must say Spirit27 is the nicest on my badass (get off my lawn) list of friends. Now this still puts him in the badass list of Stagers, don’t get me wrong. So I would encourage you to not mess with his lawn, stay out of his kitchen, etc.
Did we catch anything? We caught a beautiful river, more geese than you can count (deciding our fishing spot was their landing spot) and a nice morning in the Sierras. So yeah, I think we limited. Looking forward to the next trip with “27”! Is the skunk gone? It depends on what you’re fishin for.
Thanks Paul for taking the time.

For those wondering who’d take a youngster like me out, Spirit27 and I going out fishin. And his pup. Should be fun. Now give him a bad time and tell him how wonderful he is. He’ll love it.

Now I don’t post or respond very often but I really appreciate opening the stage everyday. Been retired for 6 years and keep sayin I’m gonna get back out there. Kind of intimidating considering it’s been about 50 years!
Thanks to the stage and a local connection I made I’m actually gonna do it. Sounds goofy for a 66 year old man but I’m really excited.
Thanks all of you! Keep posting!
Greg

Tocino, thank you for responding, and welcome to FS. I see you have been a member since Jan., but don’t recall seeing any of your posts. (I don’t recall lots of other things either. Lol)
Yes, we are all dealt a measure of faith (ROM. 11:3). The other “exception to the rule” would be a sinner’s prayer for forgiveness/
salvation.
We have another FS member that has told me something very much like what you just posted, about not being a believer because he simply could not change a lifetime of unbelief, unless God did something to change his mind. He once said he “could not say I believe if I don’t; that would make me a hypocrite.”
Having been raised in church my whole life, and having seen miracles and experienced God’s blessings through a majority of my life, it is natural and easy for me to believe, but for him to believe, I understand how difficult it must be to relate. He and I have had many “religious” discussions as have other FS members and I, but I wonder if your personal experiences and testimony might be more acceptable or relatable to a person like this. I don’t want to mention his name without talking to him first, but I’m sure if he reads this post, he will know it’s he that I’m talking about. Our discussions have always been public on this forum.
Would you be open to the idea of talking to him if he is interested?
You can answer on this thread if you wish, or PM me if you prefer.
Thank you for your consideration of this idea. God bless you,
Randy. 🙏🏻
Tocino, thank you for responding, and welcome to F... (show quote)

Amazing Randy. I've been tryin to find that verse in the Bible and couldn't locate it. Thanks so much.
I was tryin to say God doesn't listen to or answer your prayers IF you don't even believe in him. Which I think that verse means also where it says " Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists..."
Thanks for all your prayers . We really appreciate it.

If I may respond with one caveat. When I was seeking I prayed to God to give me the faith to believe.
He replied maybe because I really wanted to believe but could not do it on my own. “Our faith is a gift from God so no one may boast”.
Man did he reply! I would encourage anyone truly seeking to consider my adventure. It is unbelievably life changing.
