I'm about to buy my first baitcaster setup. I've decided on the Shimano 150 DC.

I've always used nice spinning set ups.

Which retrieve should I buy? Right or Left? Which do the pros use?

(With spinning reels, like most others... Rod in the right hand, reel in the left.)

Having been a spin fisherman for years when I went to a baitcaster I went with a lefty. I cast with my right arm so it just made sense.

I just converted over to LH as it just made sense to not waste time or risk switching hands.

The same with me. When I bought my first baitcaster 30yrs ago, I thought since I was skilled at casting my spinning rods with my right hand, I'd continue with a baitcaster. Never regretted it. It saves time, and you're immediately ready for any quick strike.

YUP. I been using them forever. Always gotta add a 1 at end of reel type but paying a little more is worth it to never have to retrain muscles to fish backwards

There is no correct way to do it. It's whatever you're comfortable with. Nobody's gonna be laughing at you. They would be if you turned you spinning reel upside down and put it on top of your rod. I'm sure the pros would tell you the same thing. Be comfortable with whatever you pick. I have a slx dc - pretty nice reel for the money.

As usual I'm the odd man out. I reel left hand on spinning n right hand baitcaster. Just works for me. I have both hands on baitcaster when I cast. When bait hits the water I'm ready to reel. I have one left hand bc still trying to get the feel for it. All flipping n pitching I do left handed. Do what works for you. Number one rule in my opinion. If it works for you don't worry what others do. 👍🎣

I fish all my conventional reels salt water and fresh left-handed I'm right handed I like to pull hard with my right hand my dominating arm especially for yellowtail and tuna why would you want to pull with your weaker arm we turn the handle with our left hand on our spinning outfits why would you switch and turn the handle with your right hand on your baitcasters the only downfall is Left-Handed reels are a little harder to find but well worth it I left handed friends fish right handed reels

All during my youth in the 50's, I used a right handed reel, because that is what I was given. Just purchased a new setup, and went left handed, as it made more sense, and was consistent with the spinning reels I have used for years.
