Used to fish the Delaware River between nj and pa in a boat with my friend and his father. Well, we anchored up about 40 ft. from the bank on the pa side for sum lunch and beers when a family, husband wife and two teenage kids came down the bank , waved , and all stripped down naked and went for a swim. Same area one year I hooked a large carp on light tackle, and while fighting it a group of canoes stopped to see what I hooked. We landed it, I held it up then realeased it. One of the guys yells “ what you fishin for?” I said carp. Again he asks “ what you fishin for “ again “carp”. He yells back “ you letting him go, what you fishing for?”

Us surf guys in the northeast have been doing this a looong time. Surprisingly easy to learn and become second nature. I don’t know how it would work with light lures though. Just stick your index finger out at the end of your cast and reel. Seems best with braid. Penn had a bailess option for probably 40 or 50 years. Then van staal, ect.

No but their is a very easy way to clean a trout .Start at the butt cut shallow up the belly to just before the bottom of the gills stop there. You will notice two looks like slits just above where you stopped ,stick your knife thru one and out the other and cut toward the nose end of the fish, now stick your thumb in that and pull down and all the guts will come right out all is left then is run your thumb up the back bone to remove the blood that gathers along the back, rinse and you are done .Its by far the quickest way to clean a trout.
No but their is a very easy way to clean a trout .... (show quote)

+1. I might add when you stick your thumb in you’re grabbing the piece of jaw and gills and all the entrails come out as 1 piece.

Just checked online. Ocean high tide 9:41 am. Slack at the inlet 11:15. So roughly 1.5 hours of delay.

When reading the tide charts when high tide is 9:30 a.m. the best time to go fishing would be around 8 a.m. tide is at its peak. I want to go fishing at the Manasquan Inlet in New Jersey for fluke. If not when is the best time

Current in an inlet is gonna be different than the tide chart shows. slack water in an inlet is usually delayed. It depends on the size of the bay behind you and how fast it can drain on a falling tide. In other words the tide can be rising on the ocean and the river can still be emptying and when the water level equalizes you’ll get slack water. Lot of variables but usually a delay from tide chart. Locals fishing there will have a good idea of the time frame generally but wind , tide height , etc will all play a role.

Hey everyone! Been fishing 45 years on the east coast, mostly Jersey. I fish for trout winter and spring, and on the beach summer and fall. Hope I can add some useful info and learn a few things too!

I use a uni to uni splice main line to leader. No swivel. Never had one fail. Just make sure it’s beyond the rod (not in the guides ) when you cast. Barrel swivel can crack your tip if you reel it up too far. Don’t need it anyway.
